Ford's response to the Corvette was a two seater roadster sportscar
that offered more luxury refinements- the Thunderbird. This one is
from an 85 car collection in Texas. It went through a body off
frame restoration in the 90s.
EXTERIOR: Thunderbird blue, what a great 50s color for such an
iconic 50s car. It is an older restoration that has been more
recently repainted. The body is straight and smooth, I don't see
any bubbles or cracking. The paint is very glossy. Upfront the
bumper, bumper guards, the grill and the emblem are in excellent
shape. The chrome around the windshield, door handles, emblems,
fender louvers are excellent. In back the bumper, taillights look
new. It has an aftermarket white convertible folding top that
stores behind the seat. The door jambs are nice, weather strips are
soft but have some overspray on them. The rims are painted to match
the car, hubcaps are in real nice shape. The whitewalls look good.
The windshield has been replaced.
INTERIOR: Overall really nice shape. Sharp looking color matched to
the exterior. Cushion in the seat is real good, the two tone
upholstery is very nice. Door panels are in excellent shape. The
steering wheel has been repainted. The trim across the dash, the
handles, knobs and levers are really good. Still has it's original
radio. Carpet is excellent.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: You can tell it was apart during the
restoration and done right. It still shows very well. The metal
engine bay has clean metal. The original trim tag is still attached
to the firewall. The 292-198 hp motor has it's "tea pot" 4 barrel
carb. It also has the engine dress up kit which includes the
polished aluminum valve covers, chrome air cleaner and breather
cap. Has correct hose clamps and markings. The motor runs
incredibly smooth. Actually I want to repeat that, this motor runs
incredibly smooth!
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Completely solid metal. It has a matching white
wall for a spare on a painted rim.
UNDERSIDE: Older body off the frame restoration. Appears to be a
solid car. Floors, inner rockers look good. Frame is smooth, solid
metal painted black. The bushings, steering and suspension were
replaced at time of restoration. Bottom of the motor looks clean.
The Cruise-O-Matic teams looks clean. The dual exhaust goes all the
way out through the rear bumper. The fuel tank looks new.
This isn't a "fresh" restoration but I can tell it was a good solid
car that was completely taken apart and restored. When I say it's
not fresh I do NOT mean it's rough. I think it's a great car that
has been very well maintained. No significant issues, just shows
gentle age. Recently it was repainted, rechromed and new carpets so
it looks great!
