Vehicle Description
This 1987 Citroen 2CV6 Charleston represents everything you love
about classic motoring. It's a cleverly engineered car, and since
most of these stayed in Europe, it's quite distinct on American
roads. So this example was restored to make sure it looks great
during all the attention it gets.
The Citroen "Deux-Cheveaux" is as famous in France for getting its
people on wheels as the VW Beetle is in Germany. It is an ingenious
package wrapped in one of the most unique shapes in motoring. But
while the attention it generates is worth owning one, this example
also proves it has the right quality to be for the collectors, too.
The consignor states this was given a full frame off restoration in
2015. The odometer is believed to reflect actual mileage (in KM),
which means they started with a lightly used example. The two-tone
paint has a nice luster as the tasteful light and dark gray
intertwine to highlight some of the most unique curves of this
legend. Even the folding soft top coordinates in this color combo.
Plus, those unique side stripes are correct for this premium
Charleston version. In fact, the details on this one are quite
well-done. The crisp grille, clear bug eye headlights, correct
Citroen mud flaps, three-bolt wheels, and luggage rack with wooden
slats all make this a classic with true charm.
The interior is all about being simple but charismatic. The front
windows flip up for a distinct look, and the canvas roof rolls back
all the way past the rear windows so you can really enjoy a sunny
day out on the road. These were built to be the simple cars with a
rugged design that could even be used out on the farm. But the
Charleston was a more up-market version, and you see that in
touches, like the individual bucket seats up front that are done in
the correct diamond-pattern plush cloth. Plus, there have been some
nice upgrades along the way, like the newer carpeting and an
AM/FM/CD stereo w/USB input. However, nothing gets in the way of
that unique driving experience. The Citroen's hallmark single-spoke
steering wheel give you a clear view of the simple gauge package,
and the bent nail-style gearstick has a fun and distinct
action.
Under the hood is the largest motor from the series. The 602cc flat
twin is correct for this 2CV6, and the tidy wiring and correct
components remind you that they made a nice restoration investment
over the whole car. It's not overdone, and instead has more of a
look of retaining plenty of originality, so it makes for a car
that's great for driving. And these really are distinct on the open
road. The suspension is an ingenious design that is simple but
exceptionally smooth (one of the original parameters was that it
ride soft enough to get a famer's eggs to the market.) No one
should ever expect to win a drag race in an original-style 2CV like
this, but the control of the four speed and clever touches (like
inboard front disc brakes) make these a beloved cruiser by the
right people.
