Vehicle Description
Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1970 Rolls-Royce Silver
Shadow two-door saloon by Mulliner Park Ward - a rare coachbuilt
model that would become the Corniche the following year. This
example is finished in Regal Red with a biscuit interior and
Everflex top. Older restoration with some cosmetic flaws but the
mileage is believed original at 46,000 and it's in very good
mechanical order. We recently drove it from Charleston, South
Carolina to Savannah, Georgia and then on to Atlanta - it sashayed
along at 80 mph quietly and comfortably throughout the trip.
The restoration included taking much of the body down to bare
metal; there was little in the way of underlying rust or damage.
The stainless was polished and much of the chrome brightwork was
replated - and it remains in nice condition. The Everflex top was
replaced at the time of restoration as it required removing the
rear windows; it, too, remains in nice condition. While 20-plus
years later the paint retains a nice shine, there are areas, most
notably along the belt line crease, where the paint is lifting. We
have also noted some filler in the left front rocker and low in the
rear quarters. Overall it's a solid car and very attractive going
down the road, but is not a show-quality example.
The interior is tidy with working power seats and gauges. The
Connolly leather has some creasing; it was redyed during the
restoration and is showing wear - but there are no tears and it
remains relatively soft. Carpets, headliner, dash are all in good
condition. The windows work smoothly including the power operated
rears. A/C has been converted to R134a and is blowing ice cold.
This Rolls starts effortlessly and idles nearly silently. The
previous two owners spent a considerable amount of money and time
on mechanical work and a number of service records are included.
Notably the brakes and hydraulic system were recently refurbished
including new brake hoses, hydraulic pumps, accumulators and valve
bodies. Recent tune up including electronic ignition and coil, new
cap and rotor, plugs and wires. Fuel system maintenance includes
new SU double-ended fuel pump, new fuel tank sender, breather lines
and fill tube, plus rebuilt carbs (with RR jets and new
needles).
A number of spare parts are included along with the jack, spare
tire, owners book, a written history about the restoration and
eight binders of factory service manuals. An attractive coach built
Rolls-Royce for MG money. For more information about this 1970
