For Sale: 2007 Mercedes-Benz S 65 AMG in Montreal, Quebec

Vehicle Description

Intro

In 1967 AMG Engine Production and Development was founded by two former Mercedes engineers, Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher. The two men had a comprehensive knowledge of all things Mercedes and went to work designing and testing race engines. Four short years later and the pair took a damaged 300 SEL 6.3, fixed it up, increased the displacement to 6.8 litres and entered it in the famed 24hrs of Spa where it took 2nd place. Since then the notorious “Red Pig” has gone down in history books as the very first car to wear the AMG badge, it also set a high standard for all the cars that followed in its lineage. Over the years AMG became famous for producing unofficial performance packages for a variety of cars in the Mercedes line-up. It took many years for Mercedes to fully appreciate the impact AMG was making on the automotive industry and on January 1st, 1999 Mercedes purchased 51% of the company and Mercedes-AMG as we know it was born. Throughout its history, AMG has made its mark taking very nice cars and making them truly special. Not only is the 2007 Mercedes S65 AMG truly special, but it might also be one of the most unique and inspiring cars to come out of the AMG factory.

Interior

There's a reason why the S-Class Mercedes is the premier vehicle choice for limousine companies around the world. Step into the S65 and enter a world of unprecedented luxury. Polished wood, leather and a variety of metals adorn all points of contact and aside from a few exceptions, the entire interior is almost completely void of plastic. Passenger comfort is the primary objective and you immediately realize that when appreciating the interior of this vehicle. Individual climate control and multi-way adjustable seating are available for all four seats. Separated sunroofs are positioned over each row of seating. To accompany the updated interior, Mercedes introduced a lot of behind the scenes features on the W221 S Class. This car comes equipped with infrared Night View Assist as well as Mercedes Crash Avoidance System. The previous owner has demonstrated nothing but respect for this fantastic machine, as the interior has been treated well and maintained like new since day one.

Exterior

If there's one car that has maintained consistent appeal throughout the years, one could easily make the argument that it’s the Mercedes S-Class. Subtly gorgeous, the S-Class has been the definition of automotive sophistication and refinement since it’s initial release. 2006 marked the release of an updated S-Class so this 2007 S65 is one of the first of its kind to sport the new look and new engine. The most unappealing aspects of “upgraded” or “performance” versions of cars are all the bits added to the body styling. Vents, scoops, stickers and carbon fibre are usually the give away that there's a supercharger or other upgrades stuffed under the hood somewhere. One of the most beautiful aspects of the 2007 Mercedes S65 AMG is that at the time of its release it was the most powerful saloon car in the world and aside from a few badges and a twin exhaust it looks identical to every other S-Class on the road. While many enjoy letting everyone know just how fast their car is, the S65 is for the discerning, subtle buyer looking for the classiest way to make Ferrari owners sweat. Presented in Obsidian black this S65 is beautifully presented with very minor blemish presented around its stylish body.

Mechanics

There are very few badges in the automotive world that carry the same weight as “V12 BiTurbo”. Until 2005 Mercedes had been supercharging their V8 engines when assembling the AMG S-Class.  In 2006 Mercedes released a newly styled S-Class and with that came a fresh approach to engine design. The 6.0L twin-turbocharged 12 cylinder engine is capable of a staggering 621hp. This means the heavy 2,304kg car is able to make the sprint from 0-100 kph (0-60mph) in just 4.2 seconds! As the service records show, this car has recently been serviced by a certified professional and everything is up to date and running smoothly. Showing only 42,919mi (69,071km) on the odometer, the engine along with the rest of the car is presenting in like-new condition and ready for the next owner to travel many miles in ultimate luxury and speed. The vehicle is certified DOT / EPA emissions for the States of California.

Conclusion

Looking at the performance numbers on a spec sheet, one who has never seen it in person might imagine the S65 as a snarling, muscle-bound, big body beast. While under the hood lies the heart of a monster, the fit, finish and styling of this car are the definition of refinement. It’s enthralling to be in such a quiet cabin watching the needle on the speedometer climb with such ease. Normally acceleration like this is accompanied by a noise of equal theatrics. This feeling is the embodiment of what the S65 is all about. Confidence, luxury, power. You’ll need to search long and hard before you find a car that offers all that in such a complete package.
