Vehicle Description
This 1948 Ford F-5, Stake Bed Dually is a prime example of being
built stronger to last longer. You'll feel like you've traveled
back in time when you turn the chrome handle on the solid door. As
soon as you step up on the running board and slide into the
color-matched, painted metal interior cab you'll notice this isn't
just a big truck on the outside, the inside is very roomy too! The
dash, doors and rest of the interior have been painted to match the
body and the matching headliner tie everything together nicely. The
black vinyl bench seat provides the perfect perch to handle the
full-sized manual steering, also giving the perfect view of the
dash with an accurate and working cluster of gauges. Sitting up
high looking out the large, clear windows it's easy to see the
looks this distinctive truck brings to the faces of the people you
pass. Be prepared to wave and stop to share in the nostalgia of
this truck,
From the front seeing this old-school grille with narrow-set
headlights coming towards you, or even driving through the pasture
there is no doubt that this truck is ready to work when called
upon. The doors are super solid and open and close easily, the hood
fits snug and the side markers and mirrors just add to the
masculine silhouette of this heavy-duty truck. The stake bed,
correct to the period, is one more feature that makes this truck
not only good to look at but, practical as well. The bed has been
built with pressure treated wood, given a burn technique and
sealed. The time and care taken on this project make it useful
everyday. It could be used hauling feed to the pasture, move
furniture, haul people in a parade, a tailgate, even a hayride! At
72 years old it may not be perfection but, it will certainly do
well at car shows and other events.
There is a push button starter with a manual choke if you need it.
You will want to give yourself a little time to get use to the
4-speed manual gearbox. It's heavy-duty and takes a little practice
but once you get the hang of it you'll enjoy the sound the flathead
V8 makes as it powers up and takes you to your destination. Under
the hood is clean and houses the factory-spec 6-volt system
(positive ground). There is a generator for the electrical system.
The original steel wheels have been painted black to match the
running boards and make a great contrast to the gray paint of the
truck. The new tires are 7.00-20 heavy-duty Super Traction-STA
truck tires. There is also a spare mounted underneath the bed.
There are many little details throughout this project, some are the
custom wood license on the front to the marble brake lamps in the
back. You'll be hard pressed to find a workhorse like this, in such
great condition to be enjoyed for many years to come.
