1961 Rambler American Convertible
1961 Rambler American Convertible for sale. This Rambler was purchased from the state of Texas. Recent work has been done though there is more needed.
This Rambler starts runs well. Under the hood its neat, tidy, and in good, overall order. It has a newer battery and it looks as though the engine may have been out of it in the not-too-distant past. it has many newer hoses installed and looks relatively dry all around except for the steering rack which is leaking. It appears to have a newer starter relay, brake master, and a new fuel pump. It runs well.
Inside it is functioning well with working blinkers, horn, lights, wipers, and working heater fan which is a little bit noisy. The radio is in good working order. It has a working speedometer, odometer, temperature gauge though the fuel gauge does not. The power top goes up and down without any issues and there is a boot cover to go over it when it is in the down position.
Outside is best described as a "good 20-footer". You can see it has had various repairs over the years and a repaint at some point in the distant past of its original color. The driver side looks better than the passenger side, which appears to have had some pretty shoddy paintwork below the stainless trim. The factory red rims with proper hubcaps are wrapped in an old set of P195/75-R15 tires with lots of dry rot and tread separation. They should be replaced before driving this car. The trim is reasonably decent along with the glass, mirrors, stainless an original bumpers, lenses, etc. The top is older and intact though it has been patched in one area and has a small tear the size of half a dime in another and it appears to have shrunken over the years. There is no visibility out of the rear window. It needs a new top.
The underside of the car is problematic. Be sure to look at the detailed photos and watch the video. The frame will need some reinforcements and there is definitely some work to be done underneath the car. Though I have driven the car all over town, I do not recommend that anyone else do so until a professional inspects the frame and makes any recommended reinforcements and or repairs to ensure it's safety.
