THE 1969 CAMARO 427 COPO'S ARE FAMOUS FOR THEIR RAW POWER AT 425
HORSEPOWER AND VERY LOW PRODUCTION NUMBERS. THEY WERE SPECIFICALLY
MADE TO GET AROUND THE LIMITATIONS ON PERFORMANCE CARS THAT GENERAL
MOTORS HAD IMPOSED ON CHEVROLET. VERY FEW KNEW ENOUGH TO ORDER THEM
WHICH MADE PRODUCTION NUMBERS VERY LOW (APPROXIMATELY 201) IF YOU
DECIDED TO ORDER THE COPO THE COST WOULD BE AN ADDITIONAL $4161.
HOWEVER IT WASN'T UNTIL YEARS LATER THAT THEY BECAME PUBLIC
KNOWLEDGE. THERE WAS AN EASY WAY AROUND CORPORATE BUREAUCRACY. A
SPECIAL FLEET ORDER PROCEDURE (KNOWN INTERNALLY AS THE CENTRAL
OFFICE PRODUCTION ORDER) NORMALLY USED FOR SPECIAL EQUIPMENT ON
COMMERCIAL VEHICLES LIKE TRUCKS OR POLICE CARS. THIS CAMARO IS A
DOUBLE COPO BECAUSE THE FRONT AND REAR SWAY BARS NEEDED TO BE
UPGRADED TO HANDLE THE POWER AND THE REAR SPOILER WAS ADDED FOR
AERO DYNAMICS. THIS CAR HAS ITS ORIGINAL 427 CI ENGINE, MUNCIE
TRANSMISSION AND 12 BOLT 4:11 POSI REAR ASSEMBLY. THIS CAR IS
PROUDLY DISPLAYED HERE AT LRA AUTO MUSEUM.
