1970 Plymouth Satellite
Car History
The Plymouth Satellite and Road Runner were mid-size cars with a
focus on performance built by Plymouth in the United States between
1968 and 1980. By 1968, some of the original muscle cars were
moving away from their roots as relatively inexpensive fast cars as
they gained features and increased in price.
The Road Runner was based on the Chrysler B platform, the same as
the Belvedere and Satellite, as a back-to-basics mid-size
performance car.
Plymouth developed the Road Runner to market a lower priced, basic
trim model to its upscale GTX. They paid $50,000 to Warner
Bros.-Seven Arts to use the Road Runner name and likeness from
their Wile E. Coyote and The Road Runner cartoons (as well as a
"beep, beep" horn, which Plymouth paid $10,000 to develop).
What we have here at Adventure Classic for sale is a 1970 Plymouth
Satellite that has been modified into a Roadrunner with a lot of
performance parts.
Engine & Drivetrain
The heart of this car is the engine, and they have swapped in a 440
cubic inch big block Plymouth with around 500 horsepower that has a
roller performance cam and roller rocker arms, Weiand Tunnel Ram
manifold, performance exhaust headers and duals, two-four barrel
Edelbrock carbs and plumbing, Mopar Valve covers, Mr. Gasket Blower
Scoop air cleaner that opens with the throttle to let in the air,
performance ignition and spark plug wires and more all sitting in a
clean and detailed engine compartment.
It feeds the power back to the H.D.Torqe-Flite Transmission via a
Big Dog 4200 Stall Speed converter, before it sends it to the tires
from the 8 3/4 H.D. Mopar rear end.
Interior
The two-tone Black and Blue interior has been redone. It has twin
bucket seats with matching door panels and headliner, matching dash
with both factory in the dash and high-performance accessory gauges
under the dash, stereo radio system, leather sport steering wheel,
nice carpet and floor mats, high-performance accessory chrome sport
shifter, seatbelts, and more.
Exterior
The 1970 model year brought new front and rear end looks to the one
we have with the grille, hood, front fenders, quarter panels, and
even non-functional scoops in the rear quarters being different
than the previous years.
Ours is painted in an eye-catching shade of blue with a huge amount
of metal flake paint with gold colored flames starching back from
the front to midway of the doors. It is an extremely high-end paint
job that pictures do not do it justice.
It rides super on the polished custom mag wheels and black wall
performance tires.
Conclusion
The 1970 Plymouth Satellite we have here at Adventure Classic for
sale has been modified to be even more fun and powerful than its
counterpart, the 1970 Roadrunner. If you want to be seen and heard
on the street this car will do it for you, and it can back up the
talk with that motor.
