Rarest Model of the W113 Pagoda Series - Approximately 5,000 built with only 1,750 imported to the US.

It's said that just over 5,000 examples of the 250 SL were originally produced, with only about 1,750 imported to the US. The 250 retained the stiffer suspension and sportier feel of the early SLs, but provided improved agility, engine and 4-wheel disc brakes.

113043 10 003071 was completed in July of 1967, wearing a Light Beige body and hardtop with Cream upholstery and a brown soft top. The Pagoda was sold new through Mercedes Benz of Hollywood, California on September 19, 1967 to local resident Rosa (Sipilesko) Tunberg, wife of Hollywood screenwriter and producer Karl Tunberg. The original M-B Data Plate and associated owner manuals document early ownership, as well as California registration cards from 1968-1978, when the 250 was sold to Dennis Rasmussen, who would take the car with him to Madison, Wisconsin. The vehicle remained in Rasmussen's care until 1992. The third owner was Daniel Korth, also from Madison, Wisconsin. Mr. Korth would care for this wonderful Pagoda for nearly 30 years before we acquired it.

Displaying an older exterior repaint in correct Beige, this particular car appears highly original and thoughtfully preserved throughout the vehicle. We believe the cabin retains its original upholstery, carpeting, mats, wood, headliner and trim - pairing well to all original glass and likely original exterior lenses and trim. A period Blaupunkt radio is fitted as are later speakers, mounted in the lower kicker panels. The original, uncut panels do accompany. Rubber molded-in binding on the carpet around the shift mechanism confirm factory originality. ALL five 7/67 date coded wheels received 195/75R14 Maxxis white wall tires in Spring 2020 - which coincidingly date to the 7/7/1967 stamped brake booster. Several key original features to note on this particular Pagoda include: production number "352" markings on the back of the seat panels. Body number "2777" and "777" stamped on the bonnet lid, boot box lid, hard top base and transmission support. Factory under-hood "paint runs" on the bonnet and trunk lids. Spot welds along both front fenders, across the nose and throughout the luggage compartment. Original paint throughout the engine bay and trunk, as well as factory underside and wheel well undercoating over all solid metal. Expansion tank pedestal tack welds and "bare metal" ground circles in the engine bay - in addition to correct auxiliary components.
The pagoda's trunk contains lid decals, original grey mats and spare tire cover, along with a tool kit, jack, tire iron and wheel chock.

A recent 2020 inspection and scheduled service addressed new shifter bushings, and linkage, subframe bushings, battery, ignition components, filters and fluids. All lights and safety equipment are in proper working order. The Pagoda drives, handles and performs well both in city and freeway conditions, offering the best of German engineering coupled with the glamour of 1960s motoring. In addition to the aforementioned Mercedes-Benz DataCard and Date Plate, 3071 is complete with original matching manuals in their proper vinyl pouch, original key sets and various historical items to the car. This 250 SL is a fantastic representation of an iconic, well-rounded and highly usable design with exceptional originality and thoughtful preservation from limited ownership.
