Cincy Classic Cars is proud to offer this super rare 1983 Pontiac Trans Am which is in superb overall original condition with low actual miles of 68,104. This Mecham Racing MSE "Motor Sports Edition" TA is 1 of 150 made in 1983 and is in completely stock condition with only wear items being replaced over the years.
"This 1983 Mecham Racing MSE Trans Am, based on the SCCA Trans Am Winner, is a true Limited Edition collector car built by MR from a Pontiac Trans Am. This is an authentic high performance option, called “ Motor Sports Edition”, that could be ordered from the factory. In 1983 Mecham Racing made only 150 MSE TA’s and this is #65.
This car was built for performance and handling, it has a 305 V8 with Cross Fire Ignition with twin carbs and working Ram Air (part of the MSE option). The MSE had a “Talon” suspension system, featuring Koni struts which tightened up the car and lowered it 1”, droop limit straps, 4 wheel disc brakes and a posi-trac rear end with 3.23:1 gears rounded out the MSE package. These drive train upgrades were designed to allow this machine to handle at speeds in excess of 160mph.
Each MSE was personalized with a Mecham Racing console plaque that bears the car’s serial number. Additionally, Each MSE (aka Macho 5.0) was outfitted with an MR 170mph speedometer (see Pic), MR Tachometer, MR leather steering wheel, MR Alloy wheels, MR ground effects (which were used in later model Pontiac TA’s) which included the nose/air dam and a whale tail fin and the MR “War Paint” two tone paint. Other factory options on this car include gray interior, T-tops with trunk mounted storage bags, A/C, Tilt wheel, cruise control, power windows/door locks/steering/rear hatch and a surround sound cassette stereo system."
The miles on this TA are documented as Actual on the current Ohio title. The original 305 engine remains in the car and is numbers matching as well as the automatic transmission being numbers matching. This TA features beautiful Red/Grey paint, an original Grey cloth interior, and the original 305 engine and automatic transmission. This TA is very solid with great lines and gaps. There is no rust or rust repairs and no bubbling or cracked paint. The underside is extremely solid with no rust or corrosion issues and no patches or repairs. This TA is finished in the desirable color combinations of Red/Grey over Grey Cloth interior. This is the factory color scheme as verified on the trim tag pictured above.
Exterior
The Red and Grey exterior is in fantastic original condition. This TA has great original paint with original decals and emblems. The believed to be original paint is in excellent overall condition for its age with no signs of visible rust anywhere on the body or underneath and both bumpers are in great shape. There is no bubbling paint anywhere on the body of this car. There may be some minor imperfections that are not noticeable in the photos, but nothing was intentionally excluded from the photos. The tires have good tread left and are sized 235/60/15 and the 15" OEM wheels are in great shape. All weather stripping and window sweeps are in good original condition. The hatchback area is very solid and clean and factory correct with the original t top bags, and the original spare tire and jack. The underside of this TA is exceptionally solid with no rust issues or concerns and no patches or repairs.
Interior
The Grey cloth interior of this TA is in terrific original condition. The original seat covers are in spectacular condition with no noticeable wear or fading or seam splits. These are factory original covers not some cheap aftermarket covers. The carpet is original with no major stains, rips, or holes and is in excellent condition. The original dash is in like new condition with no cracks or warping or fading. The original factory stereo works great and sounds excellent and thankfully the dash has not been cut for a modern CD stereo. The original door panels are in excellent condition and both door pulls are solid and in tact. The headliner is loose in some places but is still in tact and original. All interior and exterior lights and gauges work as they should including the cigarette lighter. The horn, all gauges, stereo, wipers, rear defrost, and blower motor all work. This car has not been smoked in; there is no aroma what so ever. The Factory AC system is fully in tact and has not been altered and is currently blowing cold air and working.
Mechanical
This TA is in excellent mechanical condition and the original 305 engine is still in the car with low actual miles of 68,104. This engine runs very well and the car performs nicely. This TA drives great with surprising power and the handling is excellent for the age of the car. A Dynomax stock style exhaust is fitted under this TA and gives this car a mild rumble at idle and cruising speeds, and the original cat still remains in place. A new battery was just added on 4/19/2020. We have driven this car numerous times and it always performs well, it does not run hot, it rides tight, and is always a joy to drive. This TA is a spectacular driver that feels great on the road and at highway speeds. There is no smoke when starting or driving the car. It starts right away every time and runs well. The brakes do not pull and stop as they should and were serviced. Also, the engine is clean and nicely detailed as one can see from the photos. The engine bay is highly original with many original hoses, wires, paint dobs, stampings, decals, clamps, etc.
