1912 Mitchell Model 5-6 Touring Convertible. The famous “Baby Six”. Absolutely Stunning Brass Era Automobile. Built with pride in Racine Wisconsin by the Mitchell-Lewis Motor Company. Sales for 1912 reached 6,000 automobiles. Mitchell-Lewis was known for building very high quality automobiles. The company built cars from 1903 until 1923 when it was absorbed by Nash. Spectacular off frame restoration to concours quality with improvements for modern touring (photo documented). 2018 Stan Hywet first place award winner. Multiple Concours d’Elegance participant. Always a crowd favorite. Exceptionally rare. Only three examples are known to exist. Great history. Formerly in the collection of “Cactus” Jack Turner from 1970-1986. Cactus Jack was a National Champion AAA Midget Race Car Driver in 1954 and 1955. “Cactus” Jack was also an Indianapolis 500 driver 6 times between 1956 and 1962. He finished 11th at Indianapolis in 1957. Formerly in the collection of Del DeRees for thirty years 1986-2016. Mr. Derees is a founder of the Meadow Brook Hall Concours d’Elegance which is now the Concours d’Elegance of America at St. John’s. Under Mr. DeRees ownership many mechanical improvements were made to make this Mitchell a reliable touring machine (photo documented). Finished in a striking shade of blue with black fenders and yellow chassis. Cream coach stripe. Comfortable Black button tufted leather interior. Black cloth top with matching boot. Riding on a 125-inch wheelbase with 36 x 4 inch “Lincoln Highway” Wide White Wall tires. Powered by the Numbers Matching 364 cubic inch straight six-cylinder engine which was rated at 34 horsepower in 1912 that is 50 horsepower by today’s standards. A Bosch DU-6 Magneto, Zenith carburetor and supplemental radiator with fan have been added for modern touring. Three speed manual transmission. A 12-volt alternator has been added. The 12-volt system powers an electric starter, turn signals, stop lamps and running lights. Loaded with brass trim. Full complement of Solar lamps and carbide generator. Mitchell script Moto-Meter. Folding windshield. Rear seat foot rest and lap robe rail. Exhaust Cut-Out. Exhaust Whistle. Excellent automobile for HCCA (Horseless Carriage Club of America) and AACA (Antique Automobile Club of America) Club events and tours. Excellent road manners. Ready to Drive, Show and Enjoy.
