Vehicle Description
A 1961 Chevrolet Corvair Rampside is already going to attract
plenty of attention. And this one is upgraded to a Pro Street
custom machine with serious V8 power, an upgraded suspension, and
four-wheel disc brakes. So while people might want to get a nice
look at this rare pickup, it may be hard, because it has the power
to be a blur as it rockets on by.
A Chevrolet Corvair pickup is already a rare sight these days, so
you know this one will grab plenty of attention. So it's a good
thing that this was built to look terrific. It starts with the
Flame Orange and Gold paints that both have plenty of metallic
element that loves to radiate in the sunshine. And while this
two-tone uses the Corvair's natural body lines for separation,
there's also a custom yellow pinstripe to make the boarder even
more distinctive. There's a ton of classic appeal with bright
chrome bumpers, Corvair grille, headlight bezels, and well-fitting
doors. But this one also has plenty of speedy custom details, like
the full custom bed cover, custom side air scoop, and bright
Weld-style racing wheels with seriously meaty ones tucked under the
rear.
These forward control trucks offer a nice cab with a flat floor and
a commanding view of the road. However, that's not what's really
attracting you to the interior. The Flame Orange is continued on
the inside, including the full custom race cage. And the full
competition attitude continues with the bucket seats with full
racing harnesses. There's also a ProComp ratchet shifter, and a
full set of AutoMeter gauges, including that large dash-mounted
tach w/shift light.
The Rampside name of the pickup is a direct reference to the cool
way the bed's side folds down to create a ramp. While one a handy
deliver feature, on this custom machine, it's just really used as a
way to further showcase the awesome power house. This is Chevy's
hardy 350 cubic-inch V8 that has been enhanced and fortified with
aluminum heads, an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, hi-rise
intake, aluminum radiator w/dual electric fans, and wrapped
headers. And while the bed looks fantastic with its wood flooring,
there's also plenty of function on display, too. You see it in the
way this is tubbed for the massive rear tires, the rear fuel cell,
and the added boxed steel reinforcing the frame. The Powerglide
two-speed is a built unit with a trans brake, 3000 RPM stall, and
reverse manual valve body to give you real control over the
powerband. This connects to a stout Dana 60 rear end with 4.10
gears for powerful take-offs. And don't forget to check out these
components in the undercarriage photos. There you'll see the kind
of fresh presentation that will have you putting a mirror under
this one at car shows. Plus, you'll spot more nice components, like
the four-link rear w/adjustable coilovers and four-wheel disc
brakes.
