Vehicle Description
A real-deal 1966 Chevrolet Impala SS 396 convertible is a wonderful
thing. But as you dig deeper, you're going to love the mix of
originality (like the numbers-matching big block) and upgrades
(like the shining paint) that come together in one irresistible
vintage package.
The first thing that stands out on this convertible is the paint.
The burgundy is a close cousin to the factory Aztec Bronze. But the
real reason for the upgrade is you get a great modern clearcoat
luster and a hint of metallic that loves to radiate in the
sunlight. So it makes for a stellar sunshine-friendly convertible.
The Impala was a premium Chevy, and so it's highlighted by the
upper-class lines that have same timeless appeal as a crisp Brooks
Brother's shirt. But more than just color and sheetmetal, even the
details are correct. The trim is bright and complete as it warps
around the body; the GM-branded Rally wheel covers are in place;
and the doors hang with the crispness not seen in many convertibles
of this era. The wide chrome grille up front is like an extension
of the mirror-like bumper. And in the rear, the bumper has a
terrific fit as it integrates into the sheetmetal. So the overall
effect of this one is a classic that looks smart with its top up or
down.
Inside is a classic interior with a ton of vintage appeal. People
will love to point out the little things, like how the insignia
trim door panels coordinates with the trim on the seats. And the
two-tone upholstery coordinates with the colors on the upper and
lower dash. This is really a terrific vintage total package that
even keeps the AM radio on display and gives you provisions for
factory air conditioning. A Super Sport of this era means bucket
seats and a center console. So while there's plenty of room in the
back for family and friends in the full-size Chevy, you'll always
be riding in individual comfort. In fact, the driver gets the best
treats as you slip behind the factory wheel with Impala center cap
and gaze over the speedometer that's as wide as the horizon. There
are sporty details, like your auxiliary gauge package integrated in
the console. There's also a ton of comfort as power windows and a
power convertible top mean you control the open-air experience
right from the driver's seat.
Open the hood to reveal the numbers-matching big block. It has a
terrifically stock look with the bright block radiating within the
dark engine bay. And even the decals look correct everywhere. But
while you'll love the originality, there's also some well-hidden
upgrades. Not everyone sees the Holley four-barrel carburetor or
the newer dual exhaust. It makes for a strong setup as the V8 fires
up easily, inhales deeply, and makes a sweet exhaust tune. The
TH400 three-speed transmission is a nice pairing for a stout setup
and automatic shifting. This easy cruising package is completed
with power steering, power brakes, and a smooth ride you get from a
true classic American convertible.
