Vehicle Description
This 1966 Pontiac GTO is the real-deal hardtop power machine that
was also meant for driving. After all, you not only get the big V8,
but also an A/C interior and an upgraded overdrive transmission. So
it's time to enjoy a legend to its fullest.
The '66 GTO is a great car to show of its sporty nature. Stacked
headlights in the front, a hood scoop, and bright dual exhaust tips
announce it has some muscle. Plus, they even upgraded this one to
competition-style Cragar wheels. But there was also style here,
too. Chrome bumpers that hugged the form and a flying buttress rear
give this some upper-class style. And the factory-correct Palmetto
Green is a distinguished color. It has a nice look, but nothing too
fancy that you'll be afraid to take it out on a whim...this is all
part of a package that's meant to be enjoyed by drivers.
The black interior is quite inviting. There were more recent
investments in the seats, carpet, door panels, and headliner to
keep this feeling fresh. There are also the right comfort features
in this Pontiac. For example, the AM/FM radio is iPod compatible.
Plus, the factory air conditioning is blowing nice and cold. So
feel free to roll down all the windows and go cruising in this
pillarless hardtop even in the summertime. And you especially like
this GTO for its driver-oriented package. You get bucket seats up
front with a center console in-between. The wood-rim sports
steering wheel feels grippy in your hands, and beyond that a is a
full round gauge package with large speedo and tach.
The big 389 cubic-inch V8 is a big reason for the GTO's success in
starting the muscle car craze. So it's great to have a
well-presented version in the engine bay. And while this looks like
a stock-style setup, right down to the turquoise block, keen eyes
may spot the upgrade. Under the polished air topper is a newer
Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor to help this V8 inhale properly.
And this mighty motor exhales with a sweet sound out of the dual
exhaust. It's the kind of package you'll want to enjoy near or far,
and so it's great to have an upgrade to a 2004R four-speed
automatic transmission with highway-friendly overdrive. Plus, power
steering and power brakes make for a nice all-around cruiser.
This sale comes with service manuals and Pontiac Historic Services
