Vehicle Description
We're not asking a whole lot for a genuine Shelby car. And we
suggest you dig deeper into this 1983 Dodge Charger Shelby, because
this is a sleek coupe with a worthwhile pedigree and the right
recent servicing to make it the best bang-for-your-buck you can
find.
The Omni-based Chargers were of a different breed than the muscle
car legends we associate with this name. These hatchbacks have a
lightweight construction that Carroll Shelby used to the fullest -
just what he did with a little roadster from England. And just like
how the AC Ace turned into the Cobra, when Shelby worked his magic
on these cars, they got a far more aggressive appearance. The full
body kit transforms this economy car into something much meaner.
Plus, there's the polished wheels, louvered rear window, chrome
exhaust tips, full width rear spoiler, and a terrific blue striping
kit on top of the shining silver metallic paint.
Inside, the silver and blue theme continues to deliver an almost
custom car look. This is well preserved, and so you can vividly see
all the Shelby touches, like the custom Shelby logo embroidered in
every headrest. There are nice comfort items, like an armrest
center console, cup holders, and Chrysler's premium AM/FM/cassette
stereo. This is also a classic you want to drive, and so it
features the correct sports steering wheel and a full gauge panel
with large speedo and tach. As a proper Shelby, you have a stick
shift exactly where you want your right hand to be.
Under the hood is what is believed to be the original motor. That's
a good thing, because it was massaged nicely by Shelby American.
They worked on the cylinder bore of the 2.2-liter motor, raised the
compression, and changed the timing. This became the kind of motor
that could set its sights on the VW GTI. These were nice handling
cars with a semi-independent rear end, and then Shelby tuned it
further. Plus, there's power steering, power brakes w/discs up
front, BF Goodrich gForce tires. And you get full control over this
lively machine with the five-speed manual transmission.
Complete with service manuals, this is an interesting and
affordable classic with a genuine Shelby history. But for the same
reasons why it's attractive to you also makes it irresistible to
others, too. So hurry if you want to take this one home. Call
