Vehicle Description
It straddles the line between muscle car and luxury car and its
futuristic styling is truly something to behold. This 1965 Buick
Riviera is a cruiser par excellence with torque aplenty - it's at
the top of its game mechanically and features a plush interior
that's nicely appointed. You don't see many Rivieras from its era
out on the road, and certainly only a select few boasting the
strong running condition this one offers.
With its inclined front end, sharply contoured bumper and tall,
almost cylindrical headlights, there isn't much chance of this
vintage Buick getting lost in a crowd. You can imagine the stir its
revolutionary styling caused when it debuted and all these decades
later, this is a classic you just can't help but stare
appreciatively at. Its Champagne Mist exterior makes an immediate
impression and while it was never intended to be just a show car,
but something to be enjoyed on the road, make no mistake - this car
is loaded with curb appeal and will no doubt turn heads everywhere
you go. Its exterior alignment is very strong - take a lap around
and you'll find that the doors, hood and trunk all blend well with
their surrounding panels and show nice, even gaps. Displaying a
substantial collection of chrome was still very much a badge of
honor in the mid-'60s and the exterior fittings here - from that
one of a kind front bumper, to the length of trim dividing the hood
on back - are all looking good.
The interior has been restored/preserved to a fairly impressive
condition while holding onto its factory configuration and provides
an outstanding driving environment that will take you back in time.
Both the wide-backed front buckets and rear bench seat are as
comfortable as they come and you won't find much wear on their
saddle-colored leather and suede surfaces. The door panels to each
side, as well as the carpeting lining the floor, also appear fresh
and their darker color accents and woodgrain appliques provides a
nice contrast to the seating. Climb into the driver's seat and
you'll immediately feel ready for the open road - beyond the
three-spoke wood steering wheel, the instrument cluster features an
assortment of crystal clear gauges, while other options include
factory air conditioning (will need to be serviced), the factory AM
radio, and a middle console that's appointed with the same
beautiful woodgrain applique that adorns the door panels. Given the
Riviera's generous proportions in the rear seat, the trunk area in
back offers plenty of space as well, with plenty of room to
accommodate all of your travel plans.
There's plenty of power on hand to accompany all this style as
well, thanks to the optional 425 Nailhead V8 that generated 340
horses from the factory. Believed to be this Riv's original engine,
the big block is running great - firing up promptly with the turn
of a key and idling with impressive smoothness. Should you decide
to get a little more aggressive on the accelerator, prepare to be
pushed back in your seat - this 7.0 liter powerplant is good for
huge lb-ft of torque and teams with a TH400 3-speed automatic
transmission that shifts with no issues. Power steering makes
navigating this half-muscle car, half luxury car a breeze, while
power brakes that feature a responsive master cylinder and brake
booster bring this Buick's set of 15" stock wheels outfitted with
whitewall radial tires that show plenty of tread to dependable
stops. A peek below reveals a very strong looking undercarriage,
and from this vantage point you can see the distinctive X -shaped
frame rails Buick employed to provide maximum structural
rigidity.
