The 1966 Chevrolet El Camino is a practical utility vehicle based
on one of the most potent muscle cars of the era. So it's great to
see some Super Sport-style upgrades on this example while also
keeping plenty of stylish originality, like the year-correct
V8.
This El Camino was upgraded to red later in life, and that means a
more recent investment that gives off quite a nice shine. And as
the light rolls across this car/truck the uniform gloss also
highlights how straight the panels are. There's traditional big
chrome bumpers, delicate trim, and the unmistakable crisp lines
shared with the '66 Chevelle. Plus, the SS hood and the 15-inch
Rally wheels on the stylish redline tires give this one an extra
dose of attitude.
The sea of red continues inside. There has been a solid investment
here, and you can feel it in the freshness of the major pieces,
right down to the dash pad. Plus, you get more of that desirable
Super Sport style with the bucket seats with a center console
in-between. And all this red is broken up nicely by plenty of
bright trim everywhere from the dash to the floor shifter. The
whole inside has a time capsule-like appearance, and that even
extends to the details like the dual-spoke steering wheel and the
AM radio that's still on display. However, if you feel the need for
upgrades, there's already provisions for R134a air
conditioning.
When you open the hood, the bold orange of Chevy's famous small
bock is radiating within the darkness of the engine bay. This is a
year-correct 327 cubic-inch unit that's believed to be original to
this El Camino. You can see they made nice investments in
maintenance to keep it looking tidy and stock - even the washer
refill bottle is in place! In fact, the only real non-factory
standout is the aluminum radiator. And those who like driving their
classics are quite happy to see that. And the way this one fires up
and runs really reaffirms the quality driver feeling. You even have
an automatic transmission and power steering to make trips
easy.
This El Camino is the ideal mix of vintage and upgrades all
