For Sale: 1968 Ford XL in Chicago , Illinois

Vehicle Description

See Photos - car is in process of being restored...currently still  at the body shop as of 5-21, painting in process, almost done.. high quality base coat/ clear coat to match the original Gold color,  photos will be updated as work progresses- price includes bodywork and paint completed,  but not complete/ further assembly, at this price,  obviously.

Super Rare, desirable, Full size Muscle, numbers matching, Documented, With Build sheet and Marti Report,  [ details showing rarity and breakdown of production numbers in photos], very original car, even has rare/ intact Thermactor system,  1 of 21 Factory 428 /4 speed manual transmission Ford  XL GT convertible,  a little over 61k on the Odometer, believed to be accurate, Gold/ Gold / white roof car, factory console with tachometer, ongoing ,high quality restoration in process,  invested $5k in NOS trim parts and over $5k in Reproduction parts [basically most everything offered at the time by Dearborn Classics, etc ] and maintenance/ chassis items- including  the new interior seat covers and door / side trim panels , new gas tank, most of the bushings,  brake parts, Both bumpers are already rechromed, etc, etc  - complete  lists/ information/ details  available upon request, in body shop to be painted  [ in primer, completed bodywork already], open to fair offers anywhere in this process, obviously, the less I do to it, the more reasonable it will sell for - believe  it or not, I'm fortunate  enough to have another one of these rarities, which is the only reason I'm selling this car.

These XL GT models basically  replaced the 7 Litre in Ford's full  size lineup and directly competed with Chevrolet's rare Z24 SS 427 cars, that are much more common than these.

They all came with at least the 390 4V ,or as this has, the rare 428 "Q" code engine, and Power Front Disc Brakes, HD suspension,  better Exhaust, multi color stripes, etc .

You won't bump into another one of these exclusive, big, beautiful cars, anytime soon- if you want to stand out in a good way at the car show, or cruise night, this is a fine choice!

Known items that will still be needed to be purchased:

-new Convertible top

-Dash pad restoration

- new carpet

- wheel well moldings- restoration of  OE , or replacements- will be needed.

- new Exhaust ( I have the original, fairly intact system)

- Battery

- wheel covers- presentable, but will need  restoration when car is done- a NOS set is available for extra money, if desired..

-stripe kit

And, of course,  invariably, a  few more things that are not mentioned, but always seem to be needed in a full restoration such as this.

Also includes a parts car, if desired, and definitely recommended, at no additional cost, partially disassembled, with no engine or transmission,  a 68 Galaxie 500 convertible.

Currently, over $40k invested,  asking  $29990.00 after  paint,  open to reasonable offers- serious inquiries only, please - these cars trade in the high $50's/ low 60's done to a good standard- so, if it doesn't sell as a project, I intend to finish it and then sell one of my two cars. A new set of 4 white wall radial tires , in the correct  P225/70R15 size, will also be included.

Please feel free to ask questions, honesty and transparency are of paramount importance  on both sides of any transaction.

As mentioned,  requests for additional /critical close up photos gladly accommodated for any serious prospect, particularly if long distance.

Thanks for your interest.
