For Sale: 1933 Pierce-Arrow 836 in Cave Creek, AZ

Vehicle Description

This 1933 Pierce-Arrow Model 836 7-Passenger is #187 of 2,152 cars built in 1933. It was treated to an expert restoration between 1978 and 1981 by The Fawcett Motor Carriage Co. in Ontario, Canada. The restoration did not include removing the body from the frame, as everything underneath looked to be in great condition. The exterior was repainted in a ‘period-correct’ two-tone blue using correct enamel-based paint (now showing some crazing/cracking in a couple areas - see photos), $5k worth of re-chroming, and all the glass was replaced, along with the window frames. The interior front-section was done in black leather, the gauges are original and functional, with the exception of the temperature gauge, which has been replaced with a period-looking modern unit. The luxurious rear area is finished in a lovely blue broadcloth, as is the carpet, footrest, headliner, and jump-seats. There are two reading lights, two ashtrays, and one lighter in the rear, all functional. The faux wood trim is hand-painted on the metal window surrounds. All of the handles and other interior trim hardware are in great shape. This Pierce drives great, over the last 6+ years it has been kept in climate controlled storage (3 years in Tampa, FL & 3 in Scottsdale, AZ). When it was restored, the 366ci, 135hp, Straight 8-Cyl was completely rebuilt, and the transmission was also rebuilt with new bearings. To get it running and driving again, the car has recently been treated to a complete fuel system flush, a fuel pump rebuild, and a rebuild of the Stromberg EE-3 carburetor. The brakes, clutch, and steering all work well. I have ownership history back to 1952, including folders of receipts, documents, newsletters, old photos, and even a copy of an owner’s manual. Upon completion of the restoration in 1981, Ron Fawcett sold the car to The Museum of Transportation in Western Canada for $36,000. I acquired the car over about 5 years ago from a collector in Tampa, FL. It was first registered as an “open top” (not sure how or why) car to The Pierce-Arrow Society by Mr. Fawcett in approx 1981. This Pierce-Arrow has lived in New York, Colorado (said to have been used by a resort to give it’s guests tours up Pike’s Peak), Ontario, Toronto, & British Columbia, Canada, Washington State, Florida, and is now in Arizona. It has a 139” wheelbase (longest available), 2 rear jump-seats, wide-whitewall 750x17” 6-ply Denman tires, dual horns, dual matching side-mount spare tires, and since it’s an early production ‘33 model, the last of the wood spoke wheels. All 7 of the windows are fully functional, although the driver’s side front is stiff and a bit difficult to operate. The windshield opens for fresh-air, along with 3 lever-operated vents for the cabin.

This Pre-War full classic is eligible for membership with the Classic Car Club of America, the Antique Automobile Club of America, and The Pierce-Arrow Society (among other classic car clubs), and would be welcome at most any automotive event or car show. This presents a rare opportunity to acquire a well-documented, well preserved, fantastic looking and driving piece of American History. Open to reasonable offers. Please contact Jeff with any questions or for more information.
