Vehicle Description
To more directly compete with the open air Jeep CJ (available
without doors and a top), in the late 1970s International Harvester
introduced a roadster version of the Scout II - the Super Scout II
(or SS2). A factory-built SS2 is rare, but it's common to see
regular full-cab scouts converted to the popular SS2 format when
they are restored.
This all-fiberglass 1978 International Scout II is the ultimate
beach cruiser because the body absolutely will not rust. This truck
is built with a complete Kentrol fiberglass tub, and the Super
Scout conversion (door inserts and grille) is from Scout Pluss.
Finished in Carolina Blue with a white interior, paint quality is
excellent. A four-inch Rough Country lift plus 33x10.50 BF Goodrich
all terrains on black wagon wheels give this truck a great stance
(and serious off road bona fides, be it a sandy beach or mountain
trail). This is a well-optioned truck with V8, automatic
transmission, power steering, power disc brakes and tilt wheel.
The interior shows well and since the floors are fiberglass (along
with the rest of the body) you can truly drive it anywhere and in
all kinds of weather and just rinse it out when you're done. Roll
bar with Bestop bikini top to keep the front seat passengers both
shaded and dry. Dash is in good condition with all gauges working.
A marine-grade stereo plus four all-weather speakers sounds great.
A battery cutoff is conveniently located in the dash, as well, for
long-term storage.
Under the hood is a 304 cubic inch V8 mated to a TorqueFlite 727
automatic transmission, Dana 20 transfer case and Dana 44 axles
with 3.07 gears. 33-gallon gas tank. Runs and drives well, and few
things are more fun than driving an SS2 in nice weather.
