For Sale: 1989 Land Rover Defender in Rowlett, Texas

Vehicle Description

Few automobiles conjure up visions of adrenaline fueled adventures than the legendary Land Rover Series 90 Defender.

It should be of no surprise then that this truck witnessed its share of intrigue; briefly commandeered by a former French Legionnaire gone rogue. Stolen during the early stages of the Arab Spring from a prominent Olive grower in the western frontier of Spain's Badajoz region. Ferried from Gibraltar to Tangiers on forged visas and false pretense, crisscrossing Morocco in a successful bid to alert those landed gentry with the influence to tamp down the revolution, saving the nation from the chaos that beset its neighbors. The truck was later found abandoned in the back lot of a run down western piano bar near the port of Casablanca by an American heiress from Texas who managed to get it loaded on her Bahamian flagged 141 foot yacht named Cattleman's Balls, delivering it to the renowned restoration shop, Némésis de la Restauration, just outside of Biarritz, France.

Well maybe the details to this story are a bit foggy if not dubious, but who can say for sure?

What we do know is this left hand drive truck was originally sold in France and was restored there in 2013 and imported to Texas in 2016. This is a well sorted Land Rover that is powered by a 2.5 liter fuel injected turbo diesel and full time four wheel drive five speed manual transmission. Its in great mechanical and cosmetic condition, is rust free and ready to embark on whatever adventure its new owner is up for.

Around town, this is a very streetable truck. It maneuvers easy and can keep up on the interstate without too much drama. These are famously austere implements that are a bit raucous, but the deliberate way in which it is operated connects the driver to the vehicle in a way that is rarely experienced. Much of its character is derived from its diesel engine which is a sensory delight of vibration, sound and smell. Nothing drives like a diesel Land Rover.

All of the lights, horn, instrumentation, heater, blower and locking hubs are in working order. Newer Perelli Scorpion tires are clad on steel rims. This truck has seen some off road duty since its restoration and has a modest amount of brush marks and hard to remove remnants of red mud underneath. Further evidence that this Defender is good to go.

The prices of North American (NAS) gasoline powered Defenders have been escalating in recent years making the rest of world (ROW) Defenders like this one a relative bargain and the only way to acquire a diesel powered one. Having owned classic Jeeps, Scouts, Land Cruisers and Broncos the nod goes to the Land Rover for all around owner experience.
