The Shelby Cobra has long been revered as the quintessential American sports car right next to the all mighty Chevrolet Corvette. Shelby brings about a unique racing history by putting V8’s where they don’t belong. The mad scientist behind this crazy combination was Carol Shelby. Since this idea was such a success, over the years more and more people wanted them, but could not afford the real thing. This is where Kirkham and many other replica companies come in to make their dreams a reality.
The Kirkham roadster is the result of the high demand for the Shelby Cobra. Kirkham Motorsports was established in 1994 and has built over 800 427 and 289 cars. There are a few things that make Kirkham unique compared to the other companies, one of which is that they use Aluminum bodies. They also give you the option to get either a 289 engine or a 427.
The owner of this Kirkham has decided to go with a 289 Engine from the factory and then send the Shelby engine out to Den Beste Motorsports to get it stroked out to a 331 with an iron block and iron heads. This example has a build list that exceeds $174,000. Further sorting, paintwork, and final completing brought the total cost to nearly $220,000. A very well optioned, well built, and well sorted example.
The example on offer here is a 2018 Kirkham Roadster, comes to LBI from its original owner. The car sits on period-correct, Trigo wheels, Penske nonadjustable shocks with coil spring suspension, stainless steel brake lines, Willwood 4 piston calipers front and rear and full stainless exhaust.
