Noting the huge success of Carroll Shelby's Cobras, followed by the
dominance of the Ford GT40 in sports prototype racing, the Mangusta
was born with American power and Italian styling. With Giorgetto
Giugiaro styling and construction by Ghia of Turin, the Mangusta
was subtle, streamlined, and elegant but was still aggressive in
appearance. The delicate styling did not mitigate the car's
performance, and the Mangusta boasted a top speed of 155 mph.
This exceptional Mangusta was acquired by the current owner in 1978
from Germany, where it was delivered new. At that time, the car was
exported from Germany to France and has remained there ever since.
A photo of the car in the history files shows that it was once blue
but is now finished in red. Records on file show that the car was
serviced upon his purchase, which includes the purchase of four
Goodyear Arriva tyres. Incredibly, these are still fitted to the
car today. Its black interior appears to be original, and the car
also retains its original tool roll and jack. A fantastic basis for
a restoration or to be preserved as is, this is truly one of the
most exciting cars in the Petitjean Collection.

La Mangusta, mariage de mecanique americaine et de style italien,
est nee dans le sillage du succes des Cobra de Carroll Shelby et de
la domination des Ford GT40 en sport prototypes. Dessinee par
Giorgetto Giugiaro et construite � Turin par Ghia, la Mangusta
etait raffinee, fuselee et elegante, mais toutefois d'un aspect
agressif. L'elegance de son style ne contrariait en rien ses
performances, et elle atteignait les 155 mph (250 km/h).
Cette exceptionnelle Mangusta a ete achetee par son actuel
proprietaire en 1978, en provenance d'Allemagne, o� elle avait ete
livree neuve. Depuis son importation en France, elle n'a plus
quitte le pays. Elle est rouge, mais une photo presente � son
dossier nous montre qu'elle a ete bleue. Les archives font etat
d'une operation d'entretien effectuee lors de son achat, avec
acquisition de quatre pneus Goodyear Arriva, qui sont etonnamment
toujours montes sur la voiture. Son interieur noir semble
d'origine, et l'on trouve � bord sa trousse � outils et son cric,
egalement d'origine. Cette voiture, qui est une merveilleuse base
de restauration ou qui peut �tre conservee en l'etat, est
veritablement la plus enthousiasmante de toutes celles de la
Collection Petitjean.

Nach dem gro�en Erfolg von Carroll Shelbys Cobras und der folgenden
Dominanz der Ford GT40 Modelle im Prototypensport wurde der Ford V8
auch f�r europ�ische Sportwagenhersteller attraktiv. Und so
entstand auch der De Tomaso Mangusta als Verbindung aus
amerikanischer Power und italienischem Styling. Der von Giorgetto
Giugiaro bei Ghia in Turin entworfene Mangusta war dezent und
aerodynamisch, aber dennoch aggressiv im Auftreten. Das eher
delikate Design milderte die Urgewalt nicht, erreicht der Mangusta
doch 250 km/h H�chstgeschwindigkeit.
Dieser au�ergew�hnliche Mangusta wurde 1978 von seinem derzeitigen
Besitzer in Deutschland erworben, wo er auch urspr�nglich
ausgeliefert worden war. Seit dem Zeitpunkt befand er sich in einer
Sammlung in Frankreich. Aus einem Foto aus den beim Fahrzeug
befindlichen Unterlagen ist ersichtlich, dass der heute rote De
Tomaso zu dem Zeitpunkt blau war. Belege in den Unterlagen zeigen,
dass der Wagen damals gewartet wurde und einen Satz neue Goodyear
Arriva Reifen erhielt. Der schwarze Innenraum scheint original zu
sein, beim Fahrzeug befinden sich auch der originale Werkzeugsatz
und Wagenheber. Dieser De Tomaso bietet eine fantastische Basis f�r
eine Restaurierung oder einen Erhalt im derzeitigen Zustand. Er ist
ohne Zweifel eines der aufregendsten Fahrzeuge der Sammlung
Petitjean.
