Sunnyside Chevrolet of Elyria, Ohio in conjunction with Greg's
Sports, Classic, & Muscle is proud to offer for sale this beautiful
1947 Indian Chief with original Indian Sidecar!
I'd like to start by saying I am not an Indian expert, but I am an
Indian lover and I do know quality when I see it. This is one
stunning, correct and excellent running/riding Chief. Yes before we
go any further this beauty is all classic Indian, sourced and loved
and restored over a long period of time with very little concern
for budget- in fact the previous owner felt that he had invested
well over $75000 dollars and countless hours of "free labor" to get
the bike to this level. After a long-term ownership things had
changed a bit and it was time for him to move on. We are proud to
be this bikes caretaker today.
Let's just roll though some facts. Numbers matching engine and bike
frame. That's a prerequisite for us when we are going to own an old
Indian- that's the only way, in our opinion, that they are truly
investment quality. The bike was sourced from "an old place in the
desert". That's a great thing because we are dealing with sun and
virtually no rust. A great beginning. Everything on the outside of
the motor was to appear as stock. Inside we have S&S flywheels,
Carillo rods, and machining that led to bike with virtually no oil
leaks. Engine was set up so the oil pumps would not sump.
Transmission has been upgraded to three speeds with overdrive.
(Please forgive the order of this I am writing from my notes based
on my conversation with the owner).
For sheet metal all three fenders are real, old stock Indian
fenders- no reproductions here. The sidecar is all original Indian
Steel. The previous owner told me the tanks were steel welded
tanks- I'm sure if you are reading this you know what that means.
The bike was restored on Bob Starks property and Bob and Jay
Junkert were helpful and contributed to the restoration with our
previous owner doing the legwork most of the work itself and the
decision making.
When I had my conversation with the previous owner, I could
certainly tell he was committed to this as a labor of love. His
intentions were to keep it forever and he built it just that way.
He owned this bike for years. As an example, he spoke of the trim
on the front of the sidecar- he said it was virtually impossible to
find and when he did find it, wrapped in its original packaging
from the 40's, he had to pay a "pretty penny" for it. Then he sent
it out and had it powder coated. He wanted only the best. As the
conversation went on, he asked me if I was gonna ride it or look at
it. I told him I was a look at it kinda guy and he responded with
"that's too bad this is a great highway cruiser at 80 MPH".
Thinking he's one helluva guy.
If you're looking for a gorgeous Sidecar Chief for your collection,
this one would be a great choice. If you're looking for a gorgeous
