It's Alive Automotive is pleased to present this beautiful XK-140
Coupe. The XK-140 was the second iteration of the famed XK series
of sports cars. The 140 essentially retains the XK-120's body shape
albeit the coupe has a slightly taller roof line. That, combined
with moving the engine four inches forward in the chassis, allowed
the XK-140 coupe to become a 2+2 sports car. While the rear seat
room is anything but generous, it's a great space for children or
the occasional third adult who's happy to sit a bit sideways. In
any case, sharing an XK Jaguar experience is a wonderful thing and
with this one you can share with more than one person at a time.
Other changes with the XK-140 included rack and pinion steering
which is not only more precise than the 120's box but lighter at
low speed making the 140 much more pleasurable to drive. Some
XK-140s were equipped with the Special Equipment option, often
referred to in the U.S. market as the XK-140 MC. Among other
things, this option included wire wheels, dual exhaust with twin
silencers, and most importantly the C-type head with its larger
exhaust valves and enlarged inlet and exhaust porting. This
resulted in 210 horsepower, a better than 10% increase over the
standard engine. Our 140 is one of those rare cars and it still
retains its original engine. Our example was restored approximately
8 to 9 years ago but has seen little use since. The exterior finish
is in great shape with smooth, evenly applied paint. There is no
blistering or cracking, a testament to the professional quality
work. The bright work is beautiful from the bumpers to the badging
to the wheels. The interior is likewise in great shape. The leather
is supple with just the perfect patina but no tears or undue wear.
The carpets are in fine condition and of the appropriate quality
materials. The dashboard wood veneer is beautiful and literally a
craftsman's work of art to behold. Mechanically, it starts easily,
revs strongly and pulls with the power you expect. Oil pressure
when warm is above spec and indicative of the engine lower end
being in good condition. The clutch is smooth and the overdrive
equipped gearbox shifts very well. Regarding the gearbox, you
should note this car was originally equipped with an automatic
transmission. The car was professionally converted to the desirable
4 speed plus overdrive unit it is equipped with now. Recent work as
part of our recommissioning includes a new fuel tank and new fuel
pump plus oil and filter changes. For questions or to inspect and
