- One of just 823 US-specification Speedsters for 1989
In 1989, just prior to the release of the 964 generation of the
911, Porsche revived the legendary Speedster model, a name
previously reserved for the purest and sportiest 356 variants. The
3.2-liter Speedster featured design elements that harkened back to
the elegant and sleek design of its ancestor. The latter was
reworked by chief designer Tony Lapine featuring numerous design
cues, such as the "camel hump" cowlings behind the seats which
concealed the manual top. In keeping with the original essence of
the Speedster, Porsche described the top as being for "temporary"
use only. When it was all said and done, a mere 2,065 Speedsters
were built for 1989, only 823 of which were destined for the United
States.
This highly original, one-owner Speedster was delivered to its
faithful recipient via European delivery. A Porsche dealer himself,
the owner sought to specify a truly unique Speedster, ensuring that
the custom features would only be seen on this car and this car
alone. The Speedster was ordered in striking paint-to-sample Ruby
Red over a unique interior that was lovingly dressed in
leather-to-sample Silk Grey with burgundy piping and matching grey
carpeting. All this was provided by the Special Wishes department
at Porsche, a luxury reserved for the company's most dedicated
clients. The consignor notes that the dash required special
approval from Porsche due to the possible reflection from the
specified color. Most notably, the interior also features a unique
custom center console, incorporating the Blaupunkt stereo system,
inside and outside temperature gauges, and voltmeter, as built by
the factory.
Offered with less than 5,100 miles since new and wearing its
original Tourist Delivery license plate, this Speedster would be a
supreme candidate for PCA events, rallies, and concours, where it
will certainly be the only Speedster like it.To view this car and
