Mercury was the kind of brand that offered premium distinction, and
this 1963 Mercury Monterey is the exact kind of car that proves it.
With big V8 power, a cool all-blue color theme, and distinct
features (like the breezeway rear window), this is a nice classic
offered for a value price.
There was a lot of Lincoln-level style in the '63 Monterey. It
could have been a cousin to the Continental with it quad headlight
design, wraparound front bumper, and full-length trim that crisply
defined the main crease in the profile. Plus, the rear with the
hint of tailfin and artfully done triple taillight design wouldn't
have looked out of place as the rival Cadillac! And the details are
great everywhere you look - from the factory-style turbine wheel
covers to the unique roofline. So these were real coupes of
distinction. And the way the factory-correct medium turquoise paint
received a quality respray later in life shows that this one loves
to showcase its '60s-style elegance with pride.
Inside, the factory-correct interior has so much blue that this
Monterey almost feels like a beach day on the Monterey coast.
There's an expertly interwoven two tone on the seats, door panels,
and even the steering wheel. So you instantly get the sense that
this is an upper class classic. When you sit down, you immediately
see plenty of stylized brightwork across the dash. Everything you
want is in working order. That not only means the full gauge
package, but also the details like the heat/defrost and AM radio.
So it really feels like a time capsule. And while other cars of the
era also had the cool pillarless hardtop profile, this one also has
the power operated "breezeway" rear window that people are going to
love to see at the car shows. And when you drive down the road, it
truly feels like a hardtop convertible as the wind flows through
the interior unlike just about any other coupe you've known.
Under the hood is the correct Z-code 390 cubic-inch V8 motor. The
engine bay presents exceptionally well with the gold valve covers
and air cleaner looking so distinct against the tidy black setup.
It's the same V8 big block would make a few legendary Mustangs, and
this one is topped with a four-barrel carburetor, so it can still
move this luxury coupe around with authority. But you don't want
this for a muscle car. Having a Monterey like this is about
reconnecting with a time when dad let you borrow his car for a big
date, or you snuck it out so you and all your friends could have
the ultimate Friday night in one car. And if you're too young for
that, here's the perfect machine to make memories like this. That's
because with a three-speed automatic transmission, power steering,
power brakes, and a suspension that will keep you floating down the
road, this Mercury is the ideal cruising coupe.
Complete with owner's manual this is all the best nostalgia on
wheels. So don't let this fun and distinct Monterey go into someone
else's garage. Call today!!!
