Vehicle Description
1967 Chevrolet Camaro RS
RS on Camaro speak stands for Rally Sport which is available on all
trim levels. It includes hidden headlights, and reverse lights
below the bumper, as well as other trim options that could be had.
It was basically an appearance package, although you could have an
RS/SS package which included a more powerful engine and the
trimmings of an RS.
For consignment a full frame off restoration on the Camaro RS from
1967. This particular consignment is simply a gorgeous example
which was painstakingly restored down to every detail. A showroom
plus example gracing our hallowed classic car halls here at Classic
Auto Mall, and this one will grab your attention if you even are
remotely a Camaro aficionado.
Exterior
With only 118 miles clocked since the rebuild, we could be on a
Chevrolet dealer showroom, and right back to 1967. Bathed in a
really well done Silverish Gray which is miles deep, it sports
painted on black stripes which run from bow to stern. Speaking of
the bow, the first feature is the hide away headlights, which work
flawlessly, and are aligned with the remainder of the grille. A
pristine simple chromed bumper frames the lower grille, and a black
spoiler brings up the bottom. Moving up the hood we have a reverse
scoop molded into the hood, perfect window trimmings, and swooping
wheel well surrounds in chrome. A lower stainless rocker is present
and has just a smidge of alignment issue on the passenger's door.
Bringing up the rear another striped spoiler, horizontal bar
taillights, and the backup lights below a mirror like simple rear
bumper. 15-inch rally wheels are covering raised white letter
Goodrich T/A radials on all 4 corners.
Interior
When this consigner states full off restoration he means it
seriously, as a flip of the doors and we are greeted with black
vinyl door panels accented by Silverish Gray body matching door
sills and near perfect cranks and handles. Flanking the center hump
are dual low back buckets in black vinyl with tuck and roll inserts
and smooth bolsters. A rear bench is shoehorned into the back and
sports the same pattern as the buckets up front. Sitting in the
middle of the hump is a "T" handled Hurst shifter. Moving to the
dash, we note dual deep embedded round gauges that use the angle of
the dash to appear even deeper and shade the gauges for great
driver visibility even in sunny weather. The dash does await your
choice of a sound system which can easily be installed to make the
dash seamless. Black carpet that appears new, unfaded, and
unstained floods the floors, and a tight black headliner hovers
above this beautiful near showroom interior.
Drivetrain
As with the rest of the car the engine bay sings with chrome and
shines to the tune of a consigner stated 383ci V8. An included dyno
sheet shows this mill pumps out 372.9 horses at its peak. It is
topped with a Quickfuel 4-barrel carburetor, has headers, and a
5-speed manual Tremec transmission which pushes power rearward to a
10-bolt rear. All else is stainless woven hoses, polished master
cylinder, and some polished filter vented valve covers. This all
wraps around an orange engine block which will denote
Chevrolet.
Undercarriage
Well, well, and all is definitely well underneath with a fully
restored undercarriage. No rust, just pure black floor pans, steel,
rockers, and unibody which is tight as a drum. 3-inch stainless
Flowmaster exhaust is snaking its way rearward, right by
independent coil springs up front and leaf springs with traction
bars on the rear. It also passes mightily by disc brakes up front
and drums one the rear.
Drive-Ability
After a crank and fire up, we had to be patient for this car to
fully warm up prior to moving forward, or it will be lesson in
futility in that it runs rough until it warms up. BUT after that
the test track called up and said no one is home so c'mon down and
run that RS through its paces. Which me and my decoder/test
driver/crash test genius(sic) did willingly. We noticed the heater
blower does not work, but the engine does...swimmingly with awesome
acceleration, great melodious exhaust sound from those 3-inch
pipes, and it handles well to boot. Brakes were good, and it likes
to take turns fast just FYI! It's like driving a new car with the
awesome interior.
Frame off always makes me salivate like a Pavlov dog, and this car
was no exception, especially since this year Camaro turns my
screws. This car did not disappoint. Tasteful color, awesome paint
job, snappy bling under the hood, and a comfy interior...get down
to Morgantown PA, FAST, because this will fly off the shelf, it's
that great of an example. Go ahead, eat a Mustang for lunch.
