Nineteen fifty-six was a big year for the Corvette, as it heralded
the model's first major design revision since its inception three
years earlier. The styling was reminiscent of the original, but it
was modernized inside and out with new fenders, chrome-rimmed
headlights, integrated taillights, and the now iconic side coves.
GM engineers also added a handful of creature comforts, including
wind-up windows, adjustable passenger seat, and external door
handles-all welcome changes from the relatively spartan earlier
models. Furthermore, customers could choose from a host of options
and colors to personalize their new Corvette. More power was
exactly what the doctor ordered, and it proved to be a massive hit
with customers, finally making the Corvette the sports car
Chevrolet dreamed it could be.
This stunning Venetian Red Corvette, until recently, was owned by
the same collector for over 50 years. The previous owner conducted
a correct and highly detailed, frame-off restoration completed just
five years ago. Options include the highly desirable 265-cubic-inch
"Turbo-Fire Special" V-8 with two four-barrel carburetors and
special high-lift camshaft producing 225 horsepower at 5,200 rpm.
The engine is rated at 270 foot-pounds of torque at 3,600 rpm. An
optional four-speed manual transmission complements the
high-performance engine. Additionally, this Corvette is outfitted
with a factory WonderBar radio that is in perfect working order. An
owner's manual, spare tire, and jack accompany the car, as
well.
Correctly restored and nicely optioned, this exceptional 1956
Corvette is ideal for club events, vintage rallies, touring, or
exhibition and would be an exciting addition to any collection of
American sports cars.To view this car and others currently
