Vehicle Description
1972 Chevrolet Monte Carlo
The 1972 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was billed as "America's most
attainable luxury car." The personal-luxury Monte Carlo flaunted a
cleaner front-end appearance with parking lights flanking a fresh
wide-mesh grille. Rear ends stuck with tall vertical taillights but
added a horizontal bright trim strip above the bumper. Top engine
was the 270-horsepower 454-cubic-inch V-8, followed by a
240-horsepower 402-cubic-inch V-8 - still called a "396". The 454
V-8 cost an extra $261, while the 402 added $142 to a Monte's
sticker. Californians had to be content with a 165 or
175-horsepower 350-cubic-inch V8 because the larger engines failed
to meet that state's emissions standards."Owning a Monte Carlo is
kind of like having your cake and driving it too," Chevrolet
insisted, blending the best virtues of the luxury car and the
sporty car. Base-priced at $3,362, the Monte Carlo could be fitted
with a long list of luxury conveniences to suit its owner.
For consignment this little piece of writer's birthday cake in a
1972 Monte Carlo and folks its pristine. Rare Tuxedo Black paint
special ordered from the factory, this 2 door hardtop example is
black and beautiful, and has plenty of nicely preserved chrome
trimmings to put the icing on the cake. An egg crate grille, single
headlights, a rear bumper that works with the rear quarter to house
the taillights and there is nothing but sweetness here on the
Classic Auto Mall floor. Not to mention the laser straight panels
like each piece was cut like a knife through butter, we can serve
up plenty for your satisfaction.
Interior
Beautiful black vinyl whips itself up into a frenzy with faux
leather panels separated by buttons. A clean door pull and opening
handle and armrest are like black butter cream icing on a black
vinyl bucket seat, console center original dash cake. To add some
extra flavor is a nicely preserved burl walnut applique dash,
complete with all the buttons, knobs and levers as the decoration.
A Sony aftermarket radio with cassette is carefully mounted into
the dash as well as some sweet A/C and pristine black carpet
flooding the bottom. On top we note a beautifully tight headliner
with nary a mark on it with a large near showroom bench across the
back of the car below.
Drivetrain
Slicing open the hood, we can look into the cooked batter and see
in the form of a big 402ci V8 which is numbers matching. Atop is a
Rochester Quadrajet 4-Barrel carburetor, and on back a numbers
matching 3-speed TH400 automatic transmission. Waaaay back is a
12-bolt 2.73 posi rear axle... Quick light the candles!!
Undercarriage
Not unlike the Teflon pan it may have been cooked in, there is no
residue in the form of any surface rust, all strong steel frame,
and floor pan construction. For the suspension we note in
ingredients such as independent coil springs for front suspension,
and 4 link coil springs for the rear. Also mixed into the
suspension are front power discs and rear power drum brakes.
Drive-Ability
Make a wish because we've already lit the candles and they are
burnin' strong. We flip it onto gear and also can light up the rear
tires on the way to our test track. Here we put it through the
taste testing, and it ran smooth, handled the texture of the
pavement just beautifully, gave us good acceleration of taste, and
sounded just fab with the Flowmaster exhaust.
An example that in my mind takes the cake without the NHTSA
bumpers, beautiful chrome, and lots of trim. The black paint is
deep dish, and the interior tasteful. With the consigner stated
9,000 original miles you'll be taking an extra piece of this
classic serving. Make a wish!
