AUCTION This September!! We are pleased to offer for sale this 1936
Packard Twelve Model 1408 Convertible Sedan with division that has
been well restored and would be welcome in most any concours event
or tour. This Dietrich styled convertible sedan is very rare and
one of a few to survive. This Packard Twelve has been collector
owned and is documented back to the mid-1970's. The Packard Beige
paint is in beautiful condition, appearing beige or taupe depending
on the light. The livery is complemented by the six 48-spoke wire
wheels painted in red with chrome hub caps with Packards iconic red
cloisonne center medallions. Also adding to its theme, the taupe
Haartz cloth canvas convertible top has red trim throughout. The
red accents really bring the combination to life, making it elegant
and sporty. The massive chrome bumpers with the famous harmonic
balancing ends add to the majestic beauty of this convertible
sedan. The paint was done in about 1998, in preparation for the
1999 Packard Centennial celebration in Warren, Ohio. The Haartz
cloth convertible tops was installed in January of 2015. We love
the fully restored matching exterior trunk that is fitted with a
full set of three pieces of matching fitted luggage!! This is
perfect for a CCCA CARavan! The red leather interior compliments
the exterior trim and is both beautiful and striking. It was all
redone in 2015 and is in excellent condition. The interior wood
graining is well done and the wood door cap panels and trim are
also well finished. The instruments are all working well and are
restored. The convertible top header and top bow have some paint
cracking from use and there is one small crack noticeable in the
wood graining paint on the steering wheel, which otherwise is very
nice. The roll-up division window gives the sense of a more formal
limousine and the 144 inch wheelbase reinforces this sense of
elegance and presence. The engine is the famous and powerful
Packard Twelve with 473 CID (Dated November 23, 1935) and the
three-speed manual transmission shifts smoothly (Dated December 6,
1935). The rear end gearing is 4.41:1. The engine and engine
compartment are accurately and well detailed for show but it is
apparent that the Packard has had some use. The engine is powerful,
quiet, smooth and performs well, exhibiting cool operating
temperatures and strong oil pressure. We've completed a full
service, rebuilt the carburetor and tuned it up. The undercarriage
has all been cleaned and painted and is quite presentable. The
odometer reading is said to be true at 78,750 miles. The Packard
Twelve is well accessorized including dual side mounted spares with
mirrors and covers, Guide Super Ray driving lights, a flared
exhaust turndown tip, and the already mentioned trunk with fitted
luggage. HISTORY OF THIS MODEL 1408 The history of this Packard can
be documented back to the mid-1970's, where it benefited from a
cosmetic restoration by the owners. They enjoyed showing the
motorcar. Upon the passing of the owner, it was stored for over a
decade and by the mid-1990's it had become a "garage find" and
offered for sale at an auction in Auburn, Indiana. It was acquired
by a collector in Philadelphia for four years before being sold to
Marc Ohm from St. Louis. Mr. Ohm is a Packard authority and
collector. It then remained in St Louis until the present owner
added it to his collection of over 65 motorcars in New Mexico. As
mentioned previously, this Packard participated in the Packard
Centennial celebration in Warren, Ohio. The long 144 inch wheelbase
and about 5,600 pounds of weight make these Packard Twelves some of
the most commanding and smooth driving motorcars of the era. The
Packard runs and drives very well. We've just completed a full
rebuild of the steering box, a full tune up and servicing, so this
Packard is ready to use! The radio and clock are not functioning
but the rest of the lights, accessories and instruments operate as
they should. For more information please call or text Harry Clark
