For Sale: 1970 Porsche 914 in Scottsdale, Arizona

Vehicle Description

This Porsche is being auctioned at  WWW.PCARMARKET.COM , the premier online source for all things Porsche

For those who insist that the Porsche 914 is not a real Porsche then they are not familiar with the short lived Porsche 914-6. Launched alongside the 4 cylinder version, the 914-6 was equipped with a 2.0 liter flat six cylinder engine derived from the 911. It was further distinguished from the European market VW badged 4 cylinder cars by use of five lug hubs, bigger brakes and an ignition switch properly located on the left side of the steering wheel. The 914-6 was and always will be a Porsche, through and through.

This example was recently acquired from the estate of an eclectic car collector with a long history of 914-6 ownership intervals. This one he bought in 2018 from an ailing friend who had recently repaired all areas of corrosion with all metal patch panels (2016) and then moved on to a complete mechanical overhaul of the motor and transmission, steering, brakes and suspension (2017). All told, close to $35,000 was spent. Before paintwork was initiated the owner died.

A 4 cylinder 914 is a great little car but when endowed with the torque of a flat six the car is transformed into a street legal race car. This car, having benefited from an extensive mechanical refresh runs strong and makes glorious flat six sounds doing it. All of the lights and instrumentation are in working order. Deep six Fuchs clad with Dunlop DZ 205/55/15 tires that look and drive as new with 2015 date codes. It is a big boy go kart and is a blast to drive.

This numbers matching, mechanically sorted example is no concours winner but it is as fine a driver as you may find. The paint has its share of dings, nicks and scrapes but its all German metal under there with good gaps on all the panels. Lenses are in good shape as is the glass. Headlight motors operate. Bumpers are straight. Targa top fits well, stows well. A fifth Fuchs spare mounts up front and the original jack kit is with the car. Interior is in decent shape with a few tears in the upper surrounds. An inoperative old stereo is installed with kick panel speaker boxes. The dash looks good with just a few very minor cracks.

Fully restored 914-6's are selling in excess of $100,000, non running project cars in the $30-$40,000 range. Aside from the fact that only 3368 of them were made over the three year production run, its the way they drive that contributes to the value of these cars. This car is priced reasonably considering the documented refresh. We are open to negotiation with serious buyers. Third party inspections are welcomed and encouraged.
