For Sale: 1962 Austin-Healey 3000 Mark II in Stratford, Connecticut

Vehicle Description

Just in........acquired from the widow of a local owner....had the car for 35+ years.  With just 60,000 original miles since new (around 1,000 miles a year).  And always garaged.

ORIGINAL paint is STILL beautiful.   Excellent floor pans and chassis (actually, 'like new'), and in ideal colors.....Healey blue over Old English White with deep blue leather seats with white piping.   And excellent original tonneau and a brand new dark blue stayfast cloth top.    This car is literally like going back in time....all original and in great condition.  A rare find.

The car is, of course, a Mk II BT7 'tri carb' with a 2.9 liter six cylinder engine and triple H4 SU carbs.   Running through a 4 speed transmission with overdrive.   Smooth, powerful,  when I first drove it back to our office, cruised at 80-90mph and it was truly a sweet drive.  Excellent ride, steering, and that incredible 'big Healey' sound.

And some interesting observations.....gearbox is incredibly quiet in both 1st and reverse....as gearboxes wear, they tend to make more and more noise from worn gears and worn bearings.  But not this one.   AND the overdrive clicks in and out instantly with no delay....again, as the pumps and clutches wear, there is often a lag in engaging.   But not this one.

Excellent chrome, excellent electrics, all original gauges work, lots of original details, excellent door and panel fit, brakes redone, new master cylinders, even has its original BMC AM radio.   And, on top of everything else.....a super rare original factory hardtop in very good condition.   All in all, an incredible original car.  Low mileage, rust free, excellent running and looking Healey with the special cache of having a somewhat exotic three carb engine.

So, IF you like the looks, you will not be disappointed with its performance and pride of ownership.   These cars have, as virtues, much of the performance of older Jaguars but very simple, very reliable, and very easy to service and maintain.  And a HUGE step up from MGs and Triumphs of the era.

A 'blue chip' investment car.
