Carroll Shelby’s legacy includes the 1996 Viper GTS Coupe whose design is borrowed from the thundering World Champion Cobra Daytona Coupe for its almost-perfect silhouette and detailing. The GTS’s fastback roofline and unique styling - right down to the Daytona-style aluminum flip-up gas cap on the passenger-side B-pillar and tapered back through a glass hatchback ending in a full-width spoiler over a Kamm-style tail panel – makes the GTS a classic.
Up front, the Viper Coupe’s racing hood vents and deep front spoiler feed the V-10’s induction system, and fender louvers to vent under-hood air pressure and aid downforce. To drive the concept home, the GTS adopted Daytona’s all-American racing livery, combining deep metallic Viper Blue paint with white Lemans stripes. Rated at 450 HP and backed exclusively by a 6-speed manual, the Viper V-10 engine features export central rear-exit exhaust (in place of the roadster’s side-exit system). Enhancements to the suspension and undercarriage shaved significant weight in exchange for a full slate of new amenities that include exterior door handles, power side windows and door locks, air conditioning, leather upholstery, an anti-theft alarm and an in-dash stereo with CD player. This American classic will forever remain in the annals of sports car history.
