since mid-April 1964, General Motors? response was finally ready

Z/28! Not only is this an extremely rare vehicle; one of 602 Camaro

Official 1967 Z28 Registry out of the 194 still known to exist
today, the documentation and the history of this Z28 is astounding!
Larry and Shirley Ormsby purchased this highly optioned Z28 right
out of the showroom floor at Berglund Chevrolet in Jamestown, New
York on June 16th, 1967. The original dealer order form and the
original check from Larry are still included with the vehicle!
Because the Ormsby?s had three girls at the time, the salesmen, Art
Almer, put another seat belt in the rear seat before it left the
showroom floor! The Camaro today still retains all three rear
seatbelts and the original window sticker. The Ormsby?s used the
Z28 as a family car and drove it to work. Shirley drove the Camaro
most of the time and Larry raced it on Sundays. At the drag strip
with the small 15? tires, the car could not get much traction but
turned the quarter mile at 14.5 seconds at 99 miles per hour in
third gear through the traps! In 1969 Larry took the Camaro to the
dealer and had them install a pair of Z28 emblems on the front
fenders like the model year 1969 Z28 had. Through the 1970?s the
Ormsby?s used the Z28 as a family car and even took it on a road
trip to Mackinaw Island, Michigan with their kids. In the late
1970?s when gas took a big price increase and the octane went down,
they couldn?t drive the Camaro anymore. So they put it into the
garage for a decade of sleep. Finally in 1988, they decided to get
the Z28 correctly resprayed with a new vinyl top. They started
showing the car at Camaro shows, just to prove that they had a 1967
Z28, one of only 602 produced and that they were the original
owners and had all the original documentation. They became a member
of the Camaro Club of Allegheny Region out of Olean, New York and
the members really enjoyed this original owner 1967 Z28! In 2007,
the Ormsby?s were getting older decided to sell the Z28 in 2008 and
the car was sold at auction to family here in St. Louis Missouri.
This example is one of 602 Z/28s made during 1967. It was assembled
at General Motors? Norwood, Ohio (VIN code N) factory during the
first week of May 1967, a complete, numbers-matching Z/28. It left
the factory with the many options ? Courtesy Lamp, Power Brakes,
Disc Brake EQ, Tinted Glass, Center Console, Wood Steering Wheel,
Interior Decor Package, Vinyl Roof, Cluster, Exterior Package,
Special Z28 Package and Optional Special Z28 Cowl Plenum Air
Cleaner, Rear Antenna, Power Steering, Special Steering, 5J56 Heavy
Duty Brakes, 4.10 Special Rear Axle, Black Vinyl Trim and Rear Seat
Speaker. The car?s correct Butternut Yellow (code Y) paint and
chrome trim are in overall excellent condition. Black ?skunk?
stripes on the hood and trunk lid offer stark contrast to the body
color and the car features a full, black vinyl roof (code 2) that
has its own excellent condition. The body is straight and solid,
the cargo area is in very good order, the engine bay is extremely
tidy, the battery appears new and the car?s chrome bumpers are in
very good order. This Z/28 rolls on Firestone Super Sports
?Sup-R-Belt? redline, wide oval tires, size F70-15 all around. Each
one is mounted to a original factory Z28 rally wheel with original
center caps. The tires and wheels are all in good, original order.
Inside, the black vinyl interior (code 760), represents in good,
original order. The black front buckets (code Z), rear bench with
dealer installed 3 seatbelts and headliner look as they did when
the car left the factory. The Chevy three-spoke steering wheel
looks great and has the optional wood rim. The black dashboard and
inner door panel reflect the rest of the interior originality
theme, as does the factory center console with flock of ancillary
gauges and a clock positioned ahead of the shift lever. A factory
AM radio completes the interior. All the glass around the Z28 is
original and stamped but the front windshield has a quarter sized
crack near the pillar on the driver side. Under the hood is very
tidy and extremely correct with the numbers matching 302 V8
(#7N215384 code: V0320MO March 20th, 1967, Casting #3892657, Date
B227), original Holley carburetor (#3916143-CT, Date code: 742),
optional Special Z28 Cowl Plenum air cleaner, numbers matching
Muncie close-ratio, four-speed manual transmission (code M21 #P7D03
Tag #877459 April 3rd, 1967) and the numbers matching Positract
4.10 rear end (#QF0222G1 February 22nd, 1967). The Z/28 performance
package was designed (with further modifications) to compete in the
SCCA Trans-Am Series. It was introduced in December 1966 for the
1967 model year and was the brainchild of Vince Piggins, who
conceived offering ?virtually race-ready? Camaros for sale from any
Chevrolet dealer. This option package was not mentioned in any
sales literature, so it was unknown to most buyers. It featured a
302 CID V-8, with a three-inch stroke crankshaft, four-inch bore,
an aluminum intake manifold, and a four-barrel vacuum secondary
Holley carburetor of 780 cfm and a 11.0:1 compression ratio. The
engine was designed specifically to race in the SCCA Trans-Am
Series (which required engines smaller than 305 CID). Backing this
motor is a Muncie close-ratio, four-speed manual transmission (code
M21) and a 4.10:1 rear end plus traction bars. Driver convenience
features include power steering and power brakes with discs in
front. Advertised power of this engine was listed at 290
