For Sale: 1949 Ford F1 in Allentown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

Aside from drivetrain, Ford’s new “Bonus-Built” trucks were completely different than the car-based trucks they replaced. All-new front sheet metal feature integrated headlights, a one-piece windshield increased visibility, and the cabs were now wider, longer and taller. Ford’s legendary F-Series began in January 1948 with eight levels of truck, including the best seller F-1 for half-ton pickup. The F-1 was advertised as loaded with engineering advancements: Million Dollar Cab with insulated Level Actions suspension; Hypoid rear axle; Removable brake drums, Feather-Foot brakes; and Airplane-type shock absorbers, front and rear.

This outstanding 1949 Ford F-1 pickup is a gorgeous example, presented with a superb, meticulously maintained restoration. This marvelous pickup came equipped with the 226 flat head, 6-cylinder engine, and 95 HP, along with a floor-shifted 3-speed manual transmission. Subject to a comprehensive, nut-and-bolt restoration, it now presents in outstanding condition from front to back. The Vermillion Red paint is excellent, with deep reflections and exemplary fit of the body panels. The body is well-detailed with excellent bumpers, grille, and trim pieces. Accessories include: heater and defroster, and rear spare tire. As expected of a high-level restoration, the bed floor is excellent and the truck shows almost no signs of use since it was completed.

Power comes from the 226 cu in flathead six, designated H-series or Rouge 226. Like the rest of this truck, the engine is superbly detailed and finished to a showroom-new standard. It shows light signs of use on some of the metal surfaces, yet remains very clean and tidy overall.

The introduction of the F-Series marked the divergence of Ford car and truck design, developing a chassis intended specifically for truck use and, also, the interior of this 1949 model is very much down to business. The bench seat is upholstered in hard-wearing gray vinyl as original, with a molded rubber mat protecting the floors. The dash and door panels are painted steel, reflecting this trucks rugged and purposeful nature.

Beautifully restored and maintained in top condition since, this lovely Ford pickup was awarded with an AACA National Prize in 2006. Ready for any Concours or judging events, it is sure to please the distinguished collector.
