Vehicle Description
1990 Land Rover Range Rover
Sir David Attenborough talks about the changing seasons on the
African Serengeti, and how the air currents can tickle the senses
of a lion that can smell a coming rain from 50 miles away. This
piques their appetites because with this rain will come lush grass
where wildebeests will be grazing, and no match for the lion's
appetite which has been fueled by a long drought. This is exactly
where the Range Rover was meant to roam with its power, 4-wheel
drive capabilities, and ultimate comfort and conveniences British
Leyland had found their niche to beat the Jeep.
For consignment this Serengeti Range Rover, which can also be used
to roam the upscale suburbs, shuttling children to their private
schools, and providing head turning arrivals for their parents at
the country club, all in 4-wheel drive glory.
Exterior
Camouflaged in all black this large aluminum paneled truck has
average minded gaps, 4 doors with high windows that are tinted and
a large rear gate. Black 16-inch Methon thick spoked wheels are all
around, and even the taillights have gridded protectors to help
prevent breakage when you may tangle with an unexpected rhinoceros
in the bush. High ground clearance for those deep dry riverbeds to
climb in and out of. And more black coverings for the front grille
and Range Rover badging on the front of the hood.
Interior
Climbing inside this tall truck we see plenty of saddle brown
leather covering the front buckets in smooth form and some side
door panels in suede form. Noted on the driver's door the wood
applique has been replaced with black tape. Also, the front buckets
have power controls for adjustment. These front buckets are in good
form, holding their paddings and showing just a few creases from
usage. A black and wood applique center console has a large storage
bin, all the window controls, and sunroof switch. The automatic
shift lever is forwarded by 2 massive cup holders, between is
sitting the 4WD shifter. A large leather saddle brown rear bench
with a center armrest is present, and just aft of this seat is the
carpeted storage compartment accessible with the rear gate.
Currently occupying some of this space is a JL Audio sub-woofer and
some power boosters for the stereo, and a spare tire with its
original wheel. All the floors have fairly clean gold carpeting,
and the headliner is tight unpadded felt.
Drivetrain
Underneath the bonnet is a nicely patina engine bay with some
corrosion and dulled surfaces throughout. It sits in 3.9 Liter V8
format and has Lucas L-Jetronic EFI. There is a 4-speed automatic
transmission on back.
Undercarriage
The rockers appear clean and rust free, although there may have
been previously and now well completed repairs to this area. Some
surface rust is seen on suspension parts but all unremarkable. Up
front rigid axle coil springs make up the suspension and on the
rear are a De Dion axle and coil springs. Power disc brakes for all
4 corners and a stock exhaust complete the undercarriage
safari.
Drive-Ability
We started this engine but was unable to run it long due to the
need for a new radiator, water pump and clutch for the fan. So, we
did not want it to overheat. We can mention that the consigner
states it is being sold as is and no repairs to the aforementioned
will take place prior to the sale.
A black and saddle brown leather 4WD with lots of power, and a good
reputation for being able to toughen it out anywhere in the world,
all in style, is the niche this big truck fills. Fix the cooling
issue, and you are off to hunt the elusive wildebeest side by side
with the lion while getting rammed by the rhinoceros...what a
smashing adventure!
