For Sale: 1981 Porsche 930 in Fallbrook, California
CPR Classic is happy to offer this Porsche 930 Turbo Outlaw built
by Protomotive Engineering. This Turbo is one of the most
well-sorted, drivable 930's we have ever had come through our
facility.
This 930 began life as a stock 1981 example finished in Black
Metallic (appears as dark gray) over a black interior. Several
years ago, when the car had just over 80,000 miles, it was sent to
Protomotive Engineering to have their "Stage 1 Upgrade" build
performed.
This upgrade included extensive modifications to boost performance,
which limits turbo lag and makes the 930 a much more drivable car
throughout. The work performed by Protomotive included the
following items:
-Complete engine disassembly and R&R
-Complete head refinish with porting to accept 3.2 intake
manifold
-Reseal of the engine
-3.2 Carrera injection system installed w/ rising-rate fuel
pressure regulator
-Raceware head studs and rod bolts
-Motronic wiring w/ Stage 2 Motronic intercooler
-Garrett GT35R turbocharger
-Upgraded clutch
-Complete stainless exhaust system including headers & muffler
-G50 5-Speed gearbox
-Rated at 425hp. 0-60 MPH in 4.1 seconds
Please Note: This 930 retains its matching-numbers engine. However,
the matching-numbers gearbox was removed when the G50 replacement
was installed.
Other modifications on this 930 include full coil-over suspension,
Speedline wheels, yellow fog lights, and a 3.8 RS steering wheel.
The work performed by Protomotive is outstanding. The combination
of the parts chosen for the build creates a swift yet linear
experience, which is an unusual characteristic for a 930. The
Garrett turbocharger is substantially more efficient than the
original. The Turbo begins to spool at 1500 RPM and is on a full
0.7 bar boost by 3000RPM. It makes the car much more predictable to
drive. The added G50 5-speed gearbox is also excellent with
slightly shorter ratios, which creates a more engaging experience
than the stock original.
This build has 20,000 miles on it since completion and performs
like new. Cosmetically, the car is in very presentable condition.
Its been driven and enjoyed, which has resulted in some light rock
chips on the hood. There was more significant rock chipping on the
rocker moldings, which we elected to fix when the car arrived. This
930 is a driver-focused Porsche that was built for maximum driving
enjoyment.
If you are in the market for an outstanding 930 that is far better
to drive than a stock original, this is a must consider example.
Also, because it is modified, it is substantially more affordable
than a stock example, which makes it the ultimate bargain for
someone looking to enjoy their Porsche to the fullest!
