For Sale: 1968 Pontiac Firebird in Jefferson, Wisconsin

Vehicle Description

This car came to me from Southern Indiana as a trade.  From the previous owner’s knowledge, it is likely that it has always lived in Indiana.

The odometer reads just over 60,000 miles.  While we have no proof that this is actual mileage, I have reason to believe it is very possible.  The carpet appears to be original and is still in great condition.  The condition of the pedals would also indicate minimal usage.

The mileage on the car is not really an issue.  The condition is.  We know the car was restored in 2010.  It is obvious that the engine and transmission have been rebuilt.  We know the foam and upholstery have been redone.  The paint is very, very nice.  Overall, this is a very nice car.

When it was restored, the owner decided to take some liberties.  The original 350-2V Pontiac V8 was rebuilt.  A performance camshaft was installed.  An Edelbrock four barrel intake manifold and an Edelbrock electric choke four barrel carburetor were installed.  The valve covers are now chrome high-rise and they complement the chrome torsion braces and 400 decaled air cleaner.

Headers were the beginning of the dual exhaust system that rumbles through Flowmaster mufflers.  An electronic ignition system adds to the dependability and performance.

The Turbohydramatic transmission was rebuilt and a shift kit installed.  I can tell that the torque convertor has a bit higher stall than was original.  The ten bolt differential gears were changed to 3.73 ratio and Posi-traction added

The factory radio was replaced with a retro-style AM/FM/Cassette stereo and upgraded speakers were installed.  The power antenna is actuated by the on/off switch of the radio.

The body was refinished to the correct Alpine Blue hue.  The hood is now a Pontiac 400 style fiberglass version with the faux scoops and 400 emblems.  A correct black vinyl top was installed.  It all looks very nice.  The Appearance Group included wheel opening moldings, door edge guards and bright drip rails still look great and enhance the appearance.  The Pontiac Rally II wheels are wrapped with performance radial tires.

While this car is not a Firebird 400, it is dressed as one, likely performs as one and will pass as one unless a very determined guru decides to do some detective work.  Even with the hood open, nobody will be the wiser.

All features function properly with exception of the heating and air conditioning.  This was removed during restoration for a much cleaner appearing engine bay.  This is a factory A/C car, so the vents and controls are in place.  A retro-fit of heat and air conditioning is possible.

The doors and trunk lock via key.  There is a new spare tire mounted on a steel wheel.  There is a correct bumper jack, lug wrench and vinyl mat resting on top of the solid spatter painted trunk floor.

This car is a great driver with loads of torque and power.  It is very handsome and will standout at any local car event
