Vehicle Description
1974 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe
The arrival of the 1974 Chevy Corvette occurred during an abysmal
period in automotive history. The period in question actually began
in October 1973 when OAPEC, (the Arab members of OPEC) plus Egypt,
Syria, and Tunisia proclaimed an oil embargo against the United
States. Long lines for gas sprung up nationwide, and the era of the
large engine muscle car was coming to an end. Instead of pure
power, companies focused on conveniences, and smooth ride, and this
year Corvette is exemplary of the times.
For consignment the beneficiary of a full restoration 7 years ago
and since this time has been driven less than 4,000 miles. The
consigner states it is a great running car and he dove it 3 hrs to
get here with nary a complaint from the car anywhere. This car has
always been garage kept and presents very nicely in good
condition.
Exterior
One has to love the design on this curvaceous Corvette. From its
sting ray-esque nose, flared fenders, low slung panels, chrome
rocker, and rounded off rear this is definitely my favorite
Corvette design, right next to the 63 Split window. All this
fiberglass is bathed in a Red and it is a respray. Noted in the
rear bumper area is slightly off in color from the rest of the car.
A few areas of some defects in the body (may have been filled) and
some bubbling of the paint. Removable roof panels have a storage
blanket and offer up the option of some open air motoring. 15-inch
rally wheels are on as well as Firestone Firehawk SS tires.
Interior
A sea of black leather buckets, carpet, dash, and door panels, with
just a few areas of added woodgrain make up the original interior.
Original deeply sunk in round gauges front the steering wheel,
center of dash, and even A/C is installed (needs charged) in the
console controlled by horizontal wheels for temperature...modern!
The 4-speed manual transmission shifter is here as well. A pop of
the roof panels and you can experience open air motoring pleasure.
In back wood veneered panels cover extra storage area behind the
seats. Overall interior is showing some wear and could use a good
detailing.
Drivetrain
A 350ci V8 is under the hood and is unrestored. An Edelbrock
Performer Intake is seen with a 4-barrel Quadrajet carburetor atop.
A 4-speed manual transmission is on back
Undercarriage
A few areas of surface rust, and some invasive rust is noted on the
drivers rear frame. Nice patina, some rusting on the rockers.
4-wheel power disc brakes are on all 4 corners.
Drive-Ability
This car started quickly and ran well, had good acceleration, and
handled nicely.
Restored 7 years ago and runs well. Some rust underneath, but runs
strong, always was garage kept, and has a car cover and a shop
manual that will come with this car.
