Vehicle Description
1969 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible
The aerodynamic lines of America's original sports car make it the
one automobile nobody mistakes for anything else. In a coupe or
convertible this is the genuine article, designed and engineered
without compromise. Corvette stands proudly alone, because nobody
but Chevrolet can turn out a car like this on a production line.
And it's as honest as it is beautiful. As you've learned to
expect.
On our showroom floor here at the Classic Auto Mall is this "golden
nugget" 1969 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible. Beautiful lines topped
off with excellent chrome for this year the real racing form was
taking shape. This well documented 3 owner car the consigner
reached out to the original dealer who remembers this car due to
the fact it was the most expensive car on the lot back in 1969.
Some restoration over the years with a new interior and meticulous
service records since the current consigner took over.
Exterior
Clean and beautifully preserved fiberglass is bathed in Riverside
Gold paint. The Stingray monicker is back but now all one word.
Emulating the graceful fish of its namesake, we have a long and low
hood with vented sharklike front quarters and a low stance sculpted
body line. Hidden headlights push downward towards the front V
shaped bumper and chrome surrounded intake vents below. On back are
dual winglike bumpers that frame dual duals for taillights. The
highlight of course are the dual side pipes which have the factory
heat shield and hang proudly just below the doors. 15-inch deep
dish rally wheels are all around and are wrapped by BF Goodrich T/A
Radials. A shout out to the convertible top which is clean and
pristine with a clear rear window. Noted this car also comes with
an additional hard top which is black vinyl covered.
Interior
The buckets and console setup are in this car and the seats and
interior coverings such as the door panels are courtesy of Al
Knoch. Door panels are a faux leather molded into various swooping
panels, a padded cloth carbon fiber-esque horizontal panel and very
clean and shiny door handles and turn knob locks. The high back
buckets appear sculpted from the wind with their all black vinyl
coverings, and ergonomic head rests which just peer over the top of
the rear deck. A like new black center console races through these
seats and rises to house the Corvette radio and a quintuplet of
gauges and wiper switch on top. Looking onto the deep circular
inset gauges in front of the steering wheel, these are very clean
and have near perfect bezels. The like new original steering wheel
fronts the dash, and below is plush very clean black carpet with a
rubber insert on the driver's side for further weather proofing of
the carpet.
Drivetrain
A 427ci L68 V8 crowds the engine bay and is definitely documented
numbers matching. On top are 3 2- barrel correct Holley Carbs, and
there is a Muncie M21 4-speed manual transmission on back which is
also numbers matching. An AU coded 3.36 heavy duty posi-traction
rear axle is on the very back.
Undercarriage
Underneath is looking very good with slight surface rust, a new
fuel tank and clean floorpans. The suspension and steering parts
look like new, and full Independent rear suspension with a
frame-anchored differential unit is on board. Position of each
wheel established by three links: tubular axle drive shafts,
transverse strut rods, torque control arms. Vertical suspension
loads taken by transverse leaf springs. Built-in camber adjustment
at strut rod inner ends. Power disc brakes are all around and a
clean exhaust is on as well.
Drive-Ability
This car is very nicely preserved, and the new interior is great. A
twist of the key and it fired right up, and we were off to the test
track. It performed beautifully with great acceleration from that
427ci V8, and awesome handling from the upgraded options
suspension. No complaints here!
A nice survivor if you will with a wonderfully preserved patina
engine bay, Al Knoch interior redux, and near perfect exterior
Riverside Gold paint. You've gotta love those side pipes as well
and the mesh guard looks really nice with the big pipe under it on
the rockers. A convertible with a hardtop included which is black
vinyl covered.
