Vehicle Description
A beautiful Italian body and a big American V8 heart makes every
DeTomaso Pantera special, but not all were created equal. This 1972
example hits the sweet spot of quality and features that have only
become better over this exotic coupe's well cared for life.
It's great to have an Italian sports car finished in a deep and
glossy red. The panels are in such excellent condition you can see
the elegantly creased lines that give way to this exotic car's
muscular features. It's the sign of careful ownership, and also
1972 was the first year production was handed over to Ghia, who
provided superior body production. The brightwork is slight and
deliberate, with the two-piece front and rear bumpers integrated
elegantly into the design. In fact, it's here where you see what
makes this Pantera so desirable to collectors. The front chrome was
replaced later during the 1972 model year with a black bumper to
comply with U.S. regulations. So this is the true "sweet spot"
Pantera, with the best panels on the best design.
Because these were built with the American market squarely in mind,
the Panteras are one of the best Italian exotics for comfort. And
this one has a well preserved/restored presentation that really
upholds this tradition nicely. That means bucket seats with plenty
of space, taut door cards, power windows, and even provisions for
air conditioning, all make this one feel like comfortable cruiser.
The dash has a terrific vintage look, right down to vertical AM/FM
radio on display. But your real driving tunes come from a cleanly
installed AM/FM/CD stereo w/CD changer. Your left hand goes on the
upgraded sports steering wheel, which looks perfect with the
DeTomaso logo in the middle. Your right hand will love rowing
through the gated shifter that's instantly reminiscent of a
Ferrari.
The engine bay has a super-smooth show-ready look that instantly
reminds you of the quality that has gone into this car. And while
everything about this Pantera is exotic, the true appeal lies in a
more familiar powerplant. The powerful Ford 351 cubic-inch
Cleveland V8 means you can achieve supercar performance at domestic
family car maintenance prices. This also opens up a wider world of
performance components. We especially see that here where the motor
was rebuilt with a .030 bore over kit, Edelbrock aluminum heads,
Edelbrock 600 CFM four-barrel carburetor w/electric choke, aluminum
intake, and long tube headers. It delivers smooth power and torque
with a wailing V8 exhaust note that will give you chills. The ZF
five-speed manual means you are in full control over this power and
soundtrack. A reinforced fully-independent suspension, four-wheel
power disc brakes, and bright Kinesis wheels with extra wide rear
performance rubber are all part of a package that deliver the kind
of true European driving experience you will love.
There were only around 6,000 Panteras sold through Lincoln dealers
during its official four-year run in the USA. That means each one
is special, but some are more desirable than others. This one has
the look, the features, and the level of investment you demand from
a classic exotic. Call today!!!
