Vehicle Description
1969 Pontiac GTO Judge Ram Air IV For Sale - Frame Off Restoration
By LMC LMC is very proud to offer for sale this 1969 Pontiac GTO
Judge Ram Air IV For the 1969 model year, Pontiac released the
highest-performing production version of its venerable 400. Called
the Ram Air IV, it was designed for operation up to 6,500 RPM. The
Ram Air IV was essentially an update of the round port 1968 Ram
Air II and featured new larger intake ports, a new aluminum
two-plane high-rise intake manifold with removable heat crossover
and new 1.65:1 rockers, which increased valve lift to .516-inch.
Combined with the round-port cast-iron headers, the new Ram Air IV
was rated at 370 HP at 5,500 RPM with 445 lb-ft of torque at 3,900
RPM with 10.75:1 compression and a specially calibrated Rochester
Quadrajet 4-barrel carburetor. Actual horsepower for the GTO was
closer to 450 HP, though it was downplayed for insurance and
race-class qualification. The Ram Air IV had a much higher power
band than other 400s, making it a great drag-strip performer.
Available with either a Muncie 4-speed or Turbo 400 automatic, it
came with standard 3.90 gearing, with ultra-steep 4.33s optional.
Due to these restrictions, production was quite limited, but
stellar examples like this machine still exist today. This 1969 Ram
Air IV GTO Judge is one of only 549 Judges produced with the Ram
Air IV engine and 4-speed transmission, an extremely desirable
combination among the serious collectors. According to the original
bill of sale, it was sold new at MacLean Motor Sales on March 4th,
1969 for the price of $5,359. It was factory ordered in the highly
desirable Carousel Red (code 72) complemented by a Black bucket
seat interior. Other options include 4.33 Rear Axle Ratio, Front
Floor Mats, Posi-Traction, Power Front Disc Brakes, Rally II
Wheels, Y96 Handling Package, and "Judge" Option. This Judge has
received a full frame-off nut and bolt professional restoration by
us here at Legendary Motorcar. The car was completely disassembled
and stripped to bare metal. The frame was removed and the entire
drivetrain was rebuilt. The body of this vehicle was gone over from
front to back and the body fit is laser-straight. Once the body was
prepared, it was given a fresh coat of Carousel Red (Code 72). The
frame was also stripped, and all chassis components were replaced
and refinished in the correct original factory finishes. The Ram
Air IV engine has been carefully restored to "as-new" condition.
The entire engine assembly was given a coat of the correct Pontiac
silver-blue engine paint. No stone was left unturned, and the
interior was completely redone with nothing but the best of correct
materials. All instruments and gauges were checked for operation
and repaired or replaced if necessary. All wire harnesses were even
replaced. The restoration on this GTO is "factory correct," right
down to the original style Goodyear bias ply tires. The history of
this very rare Pontiac collectible has been documented with items
including a copy of the original bill of sale, GM of Canada
certification, Pontiac Historical documentation, period photos,
restoration receipts and restoration photos. For a Pontiac
connoisseur looking for a desirable GTO, it doesn't get any better
than this one. With this quality of restoration, documentation and
rarity this Ram Air IV GTO is a must-have for any serious muscle
car collector. This car was also featured on an episode of the
Television show, Legendary Motorcar. To see a complete photo album
