Vehicle Description
This is one of those cool classics that generate interest wherever
it goes, especially with VW people. After all, a 1990 Volkswagen
Transporter truck like this wasn't even allowed in the USA when
new. So to have something this unique in a survivor-grade pickup is
already attractive, even before you check out the affordable
price.
A double cab pickup is quite a rare and interesting sight. The
Chicken Tax had made it too expensive for VW to import trucks to
the USA, and so this entire generation of Transporter was never
sold here new. That's why you're looking at an independently
imported example that started life Sweden. In fact, the Magnum
edition is believed to be a rare version only offered there. It's a
highly original example, and even the paint is believed to be the
factory application. That creates a cool blend of outlaw classic
and survivor-style care. But the attraction is more than just the
stories you can tell with this Transporter, because we know you
love the way it looks, too. It has a hint of a sporty look with
15-inch alloys, a chin spoiler, and the sleekness shared with the
Vanagon. And you can see that the rear is ready to get down to
business. Volkswagen was quite clever at how to stack cargo, and
that's why you can take down any side of the bed for easy loading.
Or, you can even fold down all sides and turn your pickup into a
flatbed transporter. So something this distinctive, and also still
so useful, is great for everything from promoting a business to a
support vehicle for you other classics.
Just like the exterior, the interior is quite original with great
survivor-grade touches throughout. The clean dash, rubber floor,
and full cloth interior all show signs of great care. The driver's
high-back bucket seat is great for a commanding view of the road.
The large factory dual-spoke steering wheel and easy to reach
gearshift have the kind of functional operation that will remind
you of the Type 2 Transporters. Of course, this comes more
comfortable than those early VWs with features like an
AM/FM/cassette stereo and a sunroof. This is a double cab pickup,
which means you get the added utility to use for everything from
secure storage, to taking extra family and friends along for the
ride.
Just like the Vanagon, this Transporter is powered by VW's
2.1-liter flat-four. However, this fuel-injected powerplant is the
high compression version. That means it delivers a satisfying
amount of acceleration and the right power to take advantage of the
tow package. Plus, these have some very European characteristics
that make driving particularly nice. The motor is mounted low in
the body for a low center of gravity, and the weight distribution
is quite even. There's also a fully independent suspension, power
brakes w/discs up front, and the control of a four-speed manual
transmission. So if you've never driven one before, you're going to
be surprised at how lively this VW feels on the road.
You know these don't come up for sale too often in the USA, and so
it's time to act fast before one of the most affordable examples is
gone forever. Call today!!!
