The 1978 Chevrolet Corvette Indianapolis 500 Pace Car was
considered by many as a collector car from day one. So that's why
it's so fantastic to find one that truly has been treated that way.
After all, this example is a full survivor with just 145 miles on
it (yes, really!)
This was the silver anniversary of the Corvette, and a big reason
the Pace Car was an instant classic was because they really showed
off the new redesigned style the best. Chevy made a very special
two-tone that had such a well-coordinated style that this looks
like a custom car. There's even a red pinstripe that highlights all
the coupe's best features, like the sharply pointed nose and tall
fender line. Even the alloy wheels have the redline in them. And
this was truly an expensive undertaking, and that's why the Pace
Car edition more than doubled the base price! This was such a
unique appearance for the Corvette that it's terrific to see the
original paint in such as-delivered condition. This hasn't been
re-sprayed or over-buffed, and so it truly represents how the
factory made these cars in '78. And that means this is ready for
some serious attention from Corvette survivor shows. It's truly
original, right down to the Goodyear tires!
The nearly impossible low mileage means everything about this car
is fresh, right down to the special silver leather seats. The
experience inside is like a true time capsule with plush carpeting,
smooth door panels, and a complete and clean dash. And because
these were so expensive when new, this special Corvette is also a
loaded machine. That means glass T-tops, power windows, electric
rear defogger, power locks, provisions for air conditioning, sport
mirrors, and a tilt/telescope steering wheel. This one even still
has its original AM/FM/8-track stereo. You can verify all these
features on the original window sticker that comes with the
sale.
Lift the hood, and the time capsule appearance continues. The 350
cubic-inch L-48 motor is the verified numbers-matching block. And
as you may imagine with so few miles, even the factory decals are
bright with little wear or fade. This is mated to the correct TH350
three-speed automatic transmission that's also looking quite fresh.
In fact, the whole undercarriage barely looks like this car ever
hit the road. These C3s have desirable driving features like a
fully independent suspension, power steering, and four-wheel disc
brakes. So if you ever do decide to add to the nearly impossibly
low odometer, this Corvette will happily enjoy the open road.
Something this special needs to have all the right paperwork. So
not only does the window sticker come with the sale, but you also
get the owner's manual, title documentation, and factory
buildsheet. This is an amazing piece of history that's ready to be
someone's ultimate collectable. So do you want to be jealous or
make everyone else jealous? The difference happens when you call
today!
