Vehicle Description
This one-owner 1968 Chevrolet Impala SS 427 is well-documented and
a mostly original car with less than 83,000 miles. The actual
mileage is documented on the title. It's one of only 1,778 built.
This car was custom ordered from Glendale, CA. The original
Protect-O-Plate, owner's manual and service invoices dating back to
1975 are included. Just like the 1967 SS 427, the 1968 Impala SS
427 did not include the name "Impala" anywhere on the body. It was
very distinguishable from a standard Impala or Impala Super Sport
in several ways. The most identifying features of the SS 427 were
its special louvered fenders and sports-styled hood with a chrome
insert near the base of the windshield. Both of these features were
SS 427 only. The exterior body retains all the original sheet metal
and is very straight. It was repainted once in its original color
of Tripoli Turquoise, which looks beautiful. The car sits on Rally
wheels with new OE-style hubcaps and red line tires. The original
black interior is in beautiful condition. The interior is sporty,
comfortable and spacious. The bench seat option is seldom-seen with
the SS 427 option. 1968 was the only year of the SS 427 where
Chevrolet actually included any type of special "SS 427"
identification on the interior. A small strip molded in black was
inserted just above the glove box on the passenger side. To the
extreme right of this strip there was placed a small, rectangular
"SS 427" emblem. This strip was always black, regardless of the
vehicle's interior trim color, on all SS 427 Impalas. It's equipped
with a tachometer and air conditioning. Everything in the interior
is in working order including the door buzzer. The trunk
compartment is also in beautiful condition with the trunk mat and
spare tire. The engine compartment is nicely detailed and home to
the original matching-numbers 427 V8. Some light engine detailing
was recently completed. The engine is coupled to the original
matching-numbers 4-speed manual transmission. The power is
transferred to the original matching-numbers 12-bolt rear end. The
undercarriage is original and very clean throughout. Over the years
some service work has been completed, such as tuning the engine,
replacing the clutch and rebuilding the front suspension. As stated
in the Chevrolet Sales Brochure, "SS 427 - For the man who would
buy a sports car if it had this much room."
