this Ford's muscular fuselage reveals hand-tailored finishing
that's considered world-class by any standard. At the front of the
car, a techie GT500 fascia centers Cobra-branded grilles between
HID headlamps, halogen fog lamps and a muted splitter. At the top
of that grille, an aluminum GT500 hood leads painted mirrors, which
reflect a factory-tint greenhouse. At the sides of that hood,
sculpted fenders hang two more prominent Cobra emblems between
color-keyed rockers and a short antenna. And at the back of the
car, an aggressive wing joins bold trunk lettering to shade LED
taillights, a faux SVT fuel filler and polished exhaust tips that
are threaded through a factory splitter.
A HORSE WITH LOTS OF HORSES
Sporting a double stripe delete that makes it look delightfully
deceptive, this top tier Mustang seems almost sedate... Almost. But
don't worry, one blip of the throttle trades that nutty narrative
for nutty power - 662 factory-issued horses to be exact! At the
heart of this coupe, a stout, 5.8 liter 'Mod Motor' utilizes an
SVT-branded supercharger to turn astonishing torque into incredible
speed. Front-and-center, the car's big blower makes excellent use
of an SVT Cold Air Induction System. At the sides of the engine,
attractive SVT coil covers join dynamic, Ford Blue cam covers to
dress things up a bit. As with all Shelby specialties, this Mustang
proudly displays a small Ford-Romeo badge that's been signed by the
car's engine builder. And aesthetically, the spotless mill features
a typical OEM-level appearance that displays hardly any signs of
usage.
SVT AND SHELBY PROWESS
As most performance car fans already know, Ford's D2C chassis is
nothing short of excellent. GT500 upgrades begin with an SVT-tuned
suspension that's finished with trick Bilstein dampers. A
slick-shifting Tremec TR6060 6-speed spins a carbon fiber
driveshaft, which twists power to friendly, 3.31 gears and a tough
Torsen differential. At the corners of the car, black Brembo
calipers join black FoMoCo calipers to squeeze a quartet of vented
discs. Turns come courtesy of Ford's super-efficient power-assisted
steering. Factory true-dual exhaust aligns an H-shaped crossover
with original Ford mufflers. Naturally, Ford's standard ABS and
AdvanceTrac traction control systems are present and accounted for.
And all this first-class speed and agility rides on forged SVT
alloys, which spin 265/40ZR19 Goodyear Eagle F1s in front of
285/35ZR20 Goodyear Eagle F1s.
SHOWROOM-FRESH COMFORT
Inside this Mustang, Cobra-branded seats, which feature power
adjustment for the car's driver, ride opposite a leather-wrapped
steering wheel that's equipped with Cruise Control and redundant
audio buttons. A silver-trimmed dash hangs sporty telemetry above
standard air conditioning and optional Shaker Pro audio. Below
those electronics, a Shelby-branded console frames a short,
leather-booted shifter. Beneath that console, rich carpet floats
"GT500" branded floor mats between metal-trimmed foot pedals and
