Vehicle Description
The total appeal of this 1992 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Convertible
is a clear as black and white, literally. The final year for these
3rd-gen cars has a terrific look, and this droptop lets you enjoy
it with everything from the fuel-injected V8 power to the updated
A/C interior. And it's all offered for quite a nice price.
Before we dive into the details, it's worth noting how much these
later third-generation Firebirds have really come into their own.
Pontiac gave these a sleek restyling that only lasted two years. So
the unique beak-like front fascia and ground effects are becoming
quite sought-after today. The white paint is factory-correct and
believed to be the original application. It has held up well over
the decades. Plus, the black looks great against the white. In
fact, with the blackout rear panel and black GTA-style cross-laced
wheels, this as an almost two-tone look with the roof in place.
Then again, it needed to have distinction because this was a
specialist product. Although you ordered it through the Pontiac
dealer, these individually were crafted by the masters at ASC. That
made these expensive (adding around 50% to the coupe price) and
also quite rare.
That same timeless black and white combo can be had with the roof
down, too. Keen eyes will notice that those front buckets are a
nice upgrade to the leather seats that debuted the following year
in the fourth-gen cars. The original velour seats can come with the
sale if so desired, but this really does make for a nice elevation
in comfort. Another great upgrade is the AM/FM/CD stereo that
connects to a power subwoofer speaker system. This is a driver's
car with the full sporty round gauge layout, and these later
3rd-gen machines even benefited from an airbag. And because this
was a premium Pontiac, it also came loaded with features everyone
can enjoy. That means power windows, power locks, power mirrors,
and a tilt steering column. Plus, the factory air conditioning is
blowing nice and cold so you can enjoy the top-down experience well
into the summer season.
The engine bay continues the car's quality presentation. This is
believed to be the original motor, and it has a well-maintained
stock appearance. The fuel-injected 305 cubic-inch power plant is
known for being smooth on the highway and first off the stoplight.
Plus, the four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive also
makes this coupe the perfect cruiser, especially when paired with
the power steering, front disc brakes, and cruise control. And the
sport-tuned suspension with sway bars front & rear, as well as
Yokohama sport tires, mean the open road is calling.
This final-year 3rd-gen is a rare treat at an exceptional price. So
