Vehicle Description
1970 Oldsmobile Delta 88
Ransom Eli Olds (June 3, 1864 - August 26, 1950) was a pioneer of
the American automotive industry, after whom the Oldsmobile and REO
brands were named. He claimed to have built his first steam car as
early as 1887 and his first gasoline-powered car in 1896. The first
stationery assembly line and its basic concept is credited to Olds,
who used it to build the first mass-produced automobile, the
Oldsmobile Curved Dash, beginning in 1901.
For consignment a clean well utilized Olds Delta 88 all the way
back from 1970. A four door with a vinyl top this car measures in
at a whopping 219" long. Typical square and rectangle design for
the new decade, this car is the definition of that platform.
Exterior
This lengthy steel slab sided car with good gaps, presentable but
slightly wavy sides and Burnished Gold paint in fair condition
showing some loss of luster. Chrome and brite work is good, with
some very slight pitting, and light staining. The spacious trunk is
in good condition, and has the original felt liner that shows some
staining. Standard Oldsmobile hub caps are seen all around.
Interior
A gold velour with button tufted inserts and smooth gold vinyl
bolsters in a split bench in front, and bench in the rear stretches
from door to door. The front seat has a major split at the seam of
the broadcloth and vinyl bolster. Doors panels are a mixture of
molded plastic, faux woodgrain, and the matching gold vinyl of the
seats. Crank window handles are seen within these panels. Looking
to the square/rectangle design dash, one sees a mixture of the faux
woodgrain, black and gold molded plastic, and a padded vinyl dash
pad also in gold. All of these surfaces are very clean and wear
free. An aftermarket radio and a stick-on digital clock which
covers the original clock is noted. Gold carpet covers the floors
and presents clean.
Drivetrain
A 350ci Rocket V8 with a Rochester 2-barrel carburetor will get
this mass down the road quickly, and coupled with the 3-speed TH400
automatic transmission, gas mileage will keep money in your
pocket.
Undercarriage
The undercarriage shows some surface rust, and plenty of patina
paint and metal.
A 1970 classic with plenty of comfort, and space for passengers and
all their belongings (like the lounge chair, couch, console
TV...tongue in cheek) in the large trunk. A few faults on the
interior, but otherwise in fair condition.
