Vehicle Description
1972 Chevrolet Monte Carlo
Over the past 105 years, Chevrolet has built such a vast empire of
lovable offerings that some of them just seem to get overlooked.
Possibly the most substantial victim of that unfortunate phenomenon
is the storied Monte Carlo. Introduced in 1970, and proudly parked
in over half a million driveways during its first three years of
production, the brand's 'personal luxury coupe' was decidedly cool.
And, not as ostentatious as a Corvette or as boorish as a Camaro,
the car spent most of its life as the poster child for evolving
automotive tastes.
For consignment an original example of a 1972 version of the Monte
Carlo. This car has a few faults but remains original, and up to
you if you want to take it to the next level or just drive it as
original.
Exterior
Golden Brown factory color is on this car and is original to the
car. It shows some mottling on a few panels from an unknown cause.
The paint has small blotchy discolored areas on it. Also, here and
there we see a few scratches in the paint, and very small areas of
some rust which has been touched up. Panels are straight, gaps are
good, and a white vinyl top is looking good all around. Turbine
style wheels and redline tires sit within trimmed wheel wells and
are held together visually by a stainless rocker trim piece. This
piece has some paint chipping off on areas that have been painted
with a matte black paint on the stainless.
Interior
Dark saddle vinyl abounds inside with it appearing on the door
panels, front bucket seats, rear bench and the center console. All
is in good condition with no cracking or staining. The center
console sports a storage area with a locking cover, and a dual
vertical bar and horizontal connecting bar airline throttle cockpit
style shift lever. A nice wood applique dash houses all original
gauge's, airflow levers, and various control buttons and knobs. A
saddle covered top dash has nicely preserved padding and shows no
cracking. Gold carpet is on the floors and remains in nice
condition, as does the headliner above.
Drivetrain
Lifting the hood, a numbers matching 350ci V8 is topped by a
Rochester Quadrajet 4-barrel carburetor (not original to this car)
and backed by a TH350 3-speed automatic that cannot be verified as
numbers matching due to the shifter bracket covering the
stamping.
Undercarriage
Some surface rust on the frame, but floorpans and exhaust are like
new. It also appears as though a new fuel tank was put on. Power
disc brakes are up front and power drum brakes are on the rear.
Drive-Ability
A smooth-running car, quick starter, and comfortable interior all
work together to make this a nice original car that offers up a
smooth ride.
An overall nice original survivor runs great and looks nice. Well
maintained by a collector owner who has an interest in 70's cars.
Gracing the hallowed halls right here at Classic Auto Mall.
